Celebrated 4 times over a time of 12 years, Kumbh Mela is the great Indian festival cum a fair. It is believed that followers of Hindu religion attend this famous occasion and this also marks a significant period as per the Hindu calendar. It is by the holy bath Sadhus, Naga Sadhus and hermits the beginning of the Kumbh Mela is marked. The festival is celebrated with great zeal.
Kumbh Mela 2019 approaches and there is so much to know about the festival and here is the glimpse of this colorful festival. This year the fair is to happen in Ujjain this year, The Kumbh Mela will be there for 55 days and has immense mythological and social importance.
The main occasion is of bathing in the confluence of the important rivers Ganga, Jamuna, and Saraswati, but hold on this is not all about Kumbh Mela there is much more to this festival.
The whole air over there is filled with the smell and sound of Yajnas happening there with the chanting of Vedic mantras and chants. Kumbh Mela is just not a ritual of bathing but it is the celebration of life and festival. The beginning of the festival is marked by Peshvai this marks the beginning of the festival. Apart from bathing in the holy river, there are several activities happening here:
1. Cultural events
Experience the beautiful, colorful, cultural heritage of the country. The fair has 5 main tents where there are many events happening. In one of the tent, there are traditional folk dances being held.
At the Pravachan pandal, there are spiritual talks being held. Attend the pandals and make the most of your time when you are here at Ujjain.
2. Waterways
To soothe your soul and to detox, in the beautiful waves of water, the best option is to go for boating or ferry experience. Arranged by the Inland Waterways Authority of India, take the ferry ride at the Yamuna river.
It is sight and experience to be felt. The soft gushing water will take away all your worries and stress.
3. Laser light show
The laser light show is the main attraction of the Mela. The light show will be organized for the very first time by the government to let the visitors have an experience of the lifetime.
For the show, advance booking will be required to be done, as it is expected the show will gather much of crowd.
4. Thematic gates
The thematic gates will beautify the whole Mela and also make it easier to navigate through the Mela as it is very crowded.
The gates are placed in fixed pattern with a unique identity so that they help you to locate your way. Ideally, it is a treat with a great purpose.
5. Tourist walk
The government makes arrangements for this. You can explore the region and visit the various renowned temples and forts. In the Sangam walk, you will get the chance to visit the Bade Hanumanji temple, Akshaya Vat, Allahabad Fort, Patlapuri Mandir, and Ram Ghat.
Then there is Prayagraj walk this covers the Swaraj Bhawan, public library and Allahabad bank.
