In a bid to help the planet, German Sportswear Company, Adidas is putting its step forward to produce 11 million pairs of shoes containing recycled ocean plastic in the year 2019. Adidas has teamed up with the company Parley, a company that intercepts plastic from beaches before it reaches the oceans. This plastic is then upcycled and made into a yarn which is their key component of the upper material of Adidas footwear and running shoes which are everyone’s favourite nowadays.
Did you know that in the year 2018, Adidas has created more than 5 million pairs of shoes from recycled plastic waste collected from the oceans which are of no use to common peoples like us? The footwear company has created the shoes by using recycled material by collaborating with the same company we told you before that is, Parley for the oceans.
In the year 2017, the company has produced one million pairs of shoes.
Now they are planning for something big as they are now trying to take this step altogether on a bigger level by taking the shoe count to 11 million in 2019 itself. Isn’t that amazing?
Besides creating shoes and footwear, the company also creates apparel by making use of recycled material from the oceans.
Eric Liedtke, Adidas Executive Board member responsible for Global Brands, in this regard has said that “With Adidas products made from recycled plastic, we offer our consumers real added value beyond the look, functionality, and quality of the product, because every shoe is a small contribution to the preservation of our oceans,”.
Now have a look at what Gil Steyaert, Executive Board member responsible for Global Operations at Adidas has commented on the step taken by the company, “Sustainability at Adidas goes far beyond recycled plastic. We also continue to improve our environmental performance during the manufacturing of our products.
This includes the use of sustainable materials, the reduction of CO2 emissions and waste prevention. In 2018 alone, we saved more than 40 tons of plastic waste in our offices, retail stores, warehouses, and distribution centers worldwide and replaced it with more sustainable solutions.”
Taking this step forward to save the planet from harmful gases and emissions, Adidas has also signed the Climate Protection Charter for the Fashion Industry at the where they have agreed to reduce these toxic greenhouse gas emissions by 30% by the end of the year 2030.
Apart from using recycled plastic from the oceans for creating shoes, Adidas is also committed to foster its green credentials in other ways as well by making use of only recycled polyester in each and every product which will continue till 2024. You will be shocked to know that Adidas has not used plastic bags in its stores since the year 2016. It’s truly commendable.
After reading this, you will be amazed that how the company is putting its best foot forward to save this planet from harmful gases and pollution by not using plastic and only recycled waste and material for its customers to please them.
