Learning a foreign language is a curveball. While many people start out with great zest and zeal, only a few are able to match-up with the increasing complexities of language. Experts at Inlingua New Delhi, a language learning institute, expressed that until the approach is correct, everything looks impossible.
“The problem is that most of the people approach the concept of learning in a monotonous manner and as a result, they drop out in the middle. It is important to learn, but the trading quality and knowledge for quantity and speed doesn’t work out for the aspirant,” they added.

Here are a few strategies that will streamline the process of learning in a universal manner:-
#1 Break the pattern
Rote learning may have been an alternative approach in the past, but it surely isn’t applicable in language. Language is an art of expression, not a scientific phenomenon. It is important to make the aspirant learn in different ways. Finding the best way to learn Italian, for instance, may take a variety of strategies to suit a particular individual.
For instance, a person can forget a specific sentence, but riddle sticks. Ms. Anushree, an instructor at Inlingua New Delhi says, “With innovative methods like word games, riddles, and poems, we promote a better understanding of the concept rather than encouraging a learner to cram up rules.”
Activity-oriented learning encourages a person to involve themselves in the language while simultaneously improving their retention capacity.
A new language is always challenging and the slow progress can sometimes get onto the nerves. In such moments, it is imperative to stick to the motivation that pushed you in the first place. Remember, why did you start learning? What is the expected outcome of being fluent in the language that you are pursuing?
As long as the motivation is strong, a person can overcome challenges and gain fluency. Achieving command over a language is a time-consuming process, and you must persevere as well as work hard to reach a certain level. The reason to learn it could be higher studies, corporate opportunities or just a hobby, but it should be able to push the person to go that extra mile.
#3 Speaking and writing
The balance between these two is the key to become eloquent in any language. Humans are creatures of habit, and it is important to train the mind with rigorous practice in reading, writing and speaking a new language. While grammatical aspect can only be strengthened by writing and reading texts in the language, speaking holds unique importance.
“We encourage starting conversations in a foreign language. Everyone starts out in a broken manner, but it plays a pivotal role in achieving perfection.
Speaking in a new tongue not only instills confidence in an individual, but it also encourages them to learn more and keep striving for betterment,” says a language expert at Inlingua New Delhi.
Apart from all the technical tips, the simplest and most effective hack to learn a foreign language is to enjoy it. Just don’t label it as a daily ‘exercise’, but make it a routine.
