Lando Calrissian and Taika Waititi’s Star Wars projects have received an update. Well, they are still happening, but precisely when they will occur is a mystery.
At the Star Wars Celebration event in London, Ash Crossan spoke with Lucasfilm CEO Kathleen Kennedy. When questioned whether or whether the Lando series and Waititi’s Star Wars project were still in development. Kennedy confirmed that both were true.
She assured me that “Oh yes, all of that is going on.” “Not a single fulcrum exists. The wheels are in motion. Taika is a slow mover. Everyone’s busy right now, but yeah. We shall keep plugging away at those marvellous endeavours.”
After Donald Glover informed GQ earlier this week that he is in talks to reprise his role as Lando Calrissian in Ron Howard’s 2018 Solo: A Star Wars Story, Kennedy made comments about the Lando series for Disney+, which was first announced in December 2020.
Glover’s Statement
According to Glover, “being him is a lot of fun,” therefore he “would love to play Lando again”. He elaborated, saying, “It just has to be done by the appropriate method.” “Our time is money. People are aware of how precious their time is.
There’s only so much you can take. I don’t want to do something just because it pays the bills or is easy. I’d rather be with people I get along with. Just make sure you’re doing the right thing because I do. Lando is the type of friend I love to have.”
Yet, in February 2020, when the media first approached Waititi about making a Star Wars movie, he was cagey.
Daisy Ridley as Rey
It was reported at the time that the Academy Award winner and Academy Award nominee was from 1917. However, Krysty Wilson-Cairns would create the screenplay together. The initiative’s true status and specifics remain unknown. The projects are progressing, however, so that much is certain.
The news comes after Daisy Ridley’s casting confirmation as Rey in an untitled Star Wars sequel.
Director James Mangold, who most recently handled Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, claims that the picture “will take audiences deep into the past, charting the story of the first Jedi to wield the Force and harness it as a liberating power in an age of turbulence and injustice.”
Moreover, Filoni “will be in charge of organising the war between the Imperial remnant and the new Republic as it escalates. They’re working with producer Jon Favreau to create a cinematic event that will tie together many of the loose ends from the original Star Wars series.”
Who Exactly is Taika Waititi
Taika Waititi is a New Zealand-born director, writer, comedian, actor, and painter, who is estimated to be worth $13 million. Waititi wrote and directed films such as “Eagle vs. Shark” (2007), “Boy” (2010), “What We Do in the Shadows” (2014), “Hunt for the Wilderpeople” (2016), and “Jojo Rabbit” (2019). He also directed the critically acclaimed and commercially successful “Thor: Ragnarok” (2017).
Taika received an Academy Award nomination in 2004 for his short film “Two Cars, One Night,” and has since produced the feature films “What We Do in the Shadows,” “Hunt for the Wilderpeople,” and “Jojo Rabbit,” as well as the television series “Wellington Paranormal” (2018-present) (2019-present). Waititi has previously played Viago in “What We Do in the Shadows,” Korg in “Thor: Ragnarok,” and Adolf Hitler in “Jojo Rabbit.” He currently voices IG-11 in the Disney+ series “The Mandalorian.”
