There are many ways in which studying in the field of medicine can be really challenging even for the most brilliant of the students. The sheer workload and the expectations of their parents/guardians can make them commit mistakes or feel uneasy about how to study. So, students try to make sure that they find a way to tackle this situation. One of the main tasks students nowadays face is the dilemma of studying in a med school where the majority of the faculty is comprised of full-time professors and teachers rather than visiting faculty from other med schools and universities. And this seemingly harmless topic can be really important for some students. Let me offer you an insight into this topic in a light-hearted way.

The Big Debate about Permanent vs. Visiting Faculty
If you have attended any college or university, you will definitely come to terms with what I am talking about. On the other hand, those who don’t know the difference and are new to the topic, fret not as I will offer you the best support in this regard. Permanent Faculty offers students a chance to interact and learn from them any time of the day as they are always available after their scheduled lectures. That’s where students can benefit greatly from this. Permanent faculty makes students feel at home and many students feel comfortable interacting with them and asking anything of them.
A professor working full time at a top Caribbean medical school or any other one in the US/Canada knows that he must assist students in their bid to study in the best way possible. Students can learn so much from a professor who is available all the time for them so that they can consult him for any problem or adverse situation. Let us talk about universities and med schools that offer mainly visiting faculty.
Visiting Faculty: What’s the catch?
There are many med schools and universities which offer their students mostly visiting faculty for a number of reasons. The most important may be that they can’t afford a permanent faculty or professors don’t think positive about that med school and that’s why look just to earn some extra money from them by going there for a one-hour lecture.
In this way, they make sure that only a minimum amount of their time is consumed in this activity. While we cannot blame a professor or associate with this concern as the med school or university is responsible for this. Any professor very clearly knows about the reputation of a med school and how it is perceived by all the other teachers too.
So, they avoid joining that med school on a full-time basis. That’s why the students who come to know about a particular medical institute have some sort of skepticism about it. Let me talk about what it is.
Students Studying in a Med School offering Visiting Faculty
Just recall what I have mentioned in the paragraphs about permanent faculty members at a med school. The situation in a med school offering majority or totally visiting faculty is a very bad scenario for the students. Unlike a professor who is always there for them, they can’t interact with a visiting faculty member who doesn’t have much time for students after the lecture as he needs to go for the other commitments he has. So, it’s a dire scenario for students as ultimately they are the loser in this concern.
From the above debate, it is quite clear that there are many negative aspects related to the scenario for the visiting faculty scenario. In my honest opinion, students need to choose a med school or university where the complete or majority faculty is a full team so that students can study with full satisfaction as permanent faculty is responsible for their performance too and that’s why they perform exceptionally well.
