On the one hand there are people in the world who are making their earnest endeavors to lead a modern, rich and luxurious life-full of modern facilities and leisure of the hi-class life, while on the other hand is this couple who actually renounced the worldly happiness in order to lead a happier life in the woods or mountains surrounded with utter wilderness. Well, not just that, the couple has been living in the woods for seven years now, yet have no plans to return any day soon. It sure raises some brows along with a lot of questions.
Meet Miriam, 33, and her husband Peter, 63. The couple has a distinct residence than others.
They live in the wilderness of New Zealand. Miriam, though originally from Wehl, Holland, is now happily living with her husband the wilds of the New Zealand for 7 years now. The couple set out of this unconventional vacation in order to challenge themselves, whether they could live without the modern necessities like technology and all, for one month in 2010. But it’s been 7 years now and they have never regretted it.
“We wanted to be a part of nature, rather than just observing it” told Miriam to a leading online news site.
“We packed up two 85 kg bags with everything we needed, from rolled oats to milk powder, flour yeast, honey, rice and vegetable.”
“We got up when the sun rose and went to sleep when it went down. In the winter, we must have been sleeping for 13 or 14 hours, but it wasn’t good quality sleep at the start”.
Miriam faced some problems initially as she was a vegetarian but she had to hunt to get warm in winters.
“I knew how to shoot with a bow and arrow at a target, which I knew would be useful. What I didn’t know is how much more difficult it is to shoot at something moving.”
She told that they do not need money in the wild. But when she goes back town she needs money to buy grocery. For that she gets money from her bank.
But now they have no problems and are used to of their new life. They don’t miss the modern and life also has no plans to back to the civilization. She says “…I feel happy, healthy and exploring gives me so much joy an energy. Why would I go back to my old life?”
