Every individual might have a different opinion regarding what to eat and what not to eat and most of us eat in the way what we feel like. The first thing that we have in the morning is a very important meal of the day on which your whole day depends. But you might not be aware of what food items you should eat and what food you should avoid on an empty stomach.

1. Citrus Fruits
Most of peoples love to have oranges and grapefruits in the morning as they wake up, but do you know they could actually cause the problem to you. These citrus fruits can irritate your lower oesophagus if you eat them on an empty stomach.
2. Bananas
Bananas are everyone’s favourite, but it might surprise a lot of people that they are actually not good if you eat them in the morning. Bananas could cause a sharp increase in the amount of magnesium in your blood which could harm your heart health.
3. Yoghurt
Do you know what happens when you eat yoghurt on an empty stomach? The lactic acid bacteria found in the yoghurt becomes ineffective due to the high acidity of stomach acid. Therefore, when you consume yoghurt in the morning it provides you small benefit only.
4. Pastries
Though Shortcrust and pastries sound delicious, it can cause a lot of problems to you when you have them on an empty stomach. These foods contain a type of yeast that irritates your stomach lining causing flatulence. Besides this, they also contain lots of processed sugar which can cause your liver to become overloaded.
5. Pears
Grabbing a piece of Pear seems to be a healthy choice but let me tell you it isn’t that healthy as it seems to be. Because having a pear on an empty stomach can injure your mucous membranes due to the presence of high fibre content in them.
6. Cold Carbonated Drinks
Who doesn’t like drinking soda or cold drink? But it isn’t the idle choice to have them in the morning during your breakfast, but most of them have it just because they have lots of caffeine content in them.
But the problem is that when you have carbonated beverages on an empty stomach they can cause damage to your stomach’s mucous membranes leading to indigestion.
7. Spicy food
Undoubtedly, spicy food is tasty but if they are eaten alone on an empty stomach they can cause indigestion. Because they are responsible for triggering the release of gastric acid which further creates the possibility of developing gastric disorders.
8. Sweets
Food items like candy or sweetmeat contain lots of sugar content and they could cause a sudden increase in the insulin levels in the blood. If you keep on consuming them over a long period of time, it might have a bad effect on your pancreas.
9. Tomatoes
You shouldn’t eat tomatoes on an empty stomach, especially if you have a problem related to stomach ulcers. Tomatoes are high in tannic acid which can increase the acid levels in your stomach causing discomfort.
