Things to Avoid After Choosing The Curly Girl Method

You give up harmful practices and products like brushes and sulfates in favor of a healthy hair care routine. The curly girl method is a series of guidelines you must adhere to improve your hair’s condition and gradually develop your curls. It uses lots of moisture and particular style methods.

The CG Method, sometimes called the Curly Girl Method, is effective on all varieties of hair. For hair that is textured or has coils, waves, or curls, this diet is great due to ceasing to use sulfate-containing products, which rob your hair of moisture. Also, by using silicones, your hair will be better able to absorb moisture and nutrients.

What is the Curly Girl Method?

The phrase “The Curly Girl Method” was coined by novelist Lorraine Massey. In essence, this hair care technique avoids the typical harmful practices found in many curly hair care regimens. Instead emphasizes washing, conditioning, and natural hairstyle.

It has demonstrated that the Curly Girl Method may revitalize naturally curly hair by adding curl, volume, and luster. What we refer to as “The Golden Rules” of the Curly Girl Method are responsible for the efficiency of this method.

How does the Curly Girl Method work?

Many hair care techniques we’ve learned are inappropriate for certain hair types and may even damage them over time. Because of its structure, hair with wavy, curly, or afro-textured ends needs specific care. The cuticle, which is the outermost layer, is open, making it susceptible to harm and moisture loss. It must thus handle carefully.

The decision to quit using shampoo may seem paradoxical. But there are several reasons why traditional shampoos are bad for your hair and scalp. The primary culprit is shampoo. The most often used component in shampoo is sulfates.

Natural oils in your hair are intended to coat the cuticle and keep it sealed, but these harsh surfactants remove them. Your scalp will overproduce sebum in reaction to losing its protective layer.

The Curly Girl Method consists of two parts: following a set schedule and using items approved by Curly Girl. “CG Approved” products don’t include substances like sulphates, silicones, or drying alcohols, which are known to harm or build up on hair. These substances are included in most hair products that you can find on the shelves of drugstores and salons.

Why choose the Curly Girl Method?

Why you should choose the curly girl method could be the first thing on your thoughts. We provided the following strong justifications for joining:

  • A healthy head of curls makes you seem younger.
  • This path is environmentally friendly and green.
  • Things become easier. You won’t have to carry as many goods and appliances, making travel easier.
  • You increase your physical activity since you won’t fear gyms or swimming pools.
  • It won’t concern you whether it rains or is humid.
  • Both time and money will be greatly reduced.
  • You’ll most crucially develop a love and acceptance for your curls. You would come to love and accept yourself for who you are, your curls and all.

The Curly Girl Method: Things to Avoid

1. Banish harmful chemicals from hair products

Eliminating items from your hair regimen that contain sulphates, silicons that are not water soluble, wax, non-natural oils, and dangerous alcohols. Use only products authorized for curly girls, like clarifying shampoo and sulfate-free shampoo. Their perfume is one of the Curly Girl Method’s most crucial components.

2. Stay away from heat

If you use these tools, you risk badly harming your hair. Blow-drying is colloquially referred to as “frying your hair” because you are frying your hair.

Using a diffuser to evenly distribute mild heat over your curls is an ideal way to blow-dry your hair. It is advised to let your hair air dry as much as possible. However, doing it is undoubtedly simpler in the warmer months.

It is not advised to go outside with damp hair during winter when it’s cold. Use a hair dryer that is authorized for use with heat styling instead. To do this, use a blow dryer on a lower stand or a cold setting to air dry hair. Then, to avoid having curly hair, gently twist your hair in a diffuser attachment.

3. Say no to shampoo with sulphates

Sulfate-containing shampoos, including sodium lauryl sulfate, are extremely hazardous and drying. Hence we highly advise against using them. Numerous wonderful sulfate-free choices gently remove pollutants from your hair without sulfites if you are not ready to switch from shampoo to co-washing.

There is one circumstance in which you will want a sulfate-based shampoo. It is when you are conducting the last wash to get rid of silicones—also buildup before using the Curly Girl Method on your hair. To have the greatest voyage with curly hair, always use items that curly girls would recommend.

4. Avoid using Terry cloth towels

No matter how carefully you dry your hair, regular terrycloth towels roughen the cuticle and result in a lot of frizz and damage. Many websites suggest using a microfiber towel for dry wet hair, but we greatly like cotton t-shirt towels and muslin cloth.

A microfiber towel costs more, but you may maintain the health of your hair and restore its natural curls for less money.

5. void washing your hair daily

Your hair type and personal preferences determine this. If you have wavy hair, you should only shampoo once a week using our approach. Washing should be done once every ten days for curly hair textures, with a co-wash every week. We advise avoiding washing altogether and using only co-washes for oily hair types.

Conclusion

The Curly Girl Method, commonly referred to as “mod CG,” is not adhered to by everyone to the letter. It implies that you base your regimen on the Curly Girl Method but diverge from the guidelines when doing so would benefit you.

The more you use the CG Method, the more you will discover if your hair is content to follow it as closely. You might enjoy silicone goods that are water-soluble.
