Grand Daddy I.U., a well-known rap artist, died at the age of 54

“Man this one stinks RIP to @granddaddy iu rest well bro u will be missed,” said friend and colleague DJ Chuck Chillout on Facebook. Several of the rapper’s acquaintances and associates then confirmed the news to the press.

GDIU, born Ayub bey, spent his formative years in Hempstead, Long Island. In 1968, he was born in Queens. He only got into rap because his brother encouraged him to. However, bey made a demo tape in 1989 and gave it to rapper Biz Markie, who was impressed enough to sign Bey to his Cold Chillin’ Records label.

Lead Pipe, his second studio album, was released in 1994 and featured guest appearances by JAY-Z, Big L, The Notorious B.I.G., and Large Professor. Bey was a music producer who worked with musicians such as Biz Markie, KRS-One, Roxanne Shanté, Heltah Skeltah, and Ice-T in the 1990s.

GDIU released their first album after signing with Steady Flow and Get@Em Records. However, stick to the Script, his third studio album, was released in 2007, and P.I.M.P. (Paper Is My Priority), his most recent, was released in 2015. Shots Fired, his final studio album, was released in 2020.

As soon as word of rapper Beyoncé’s death circulated, his friends and colleagues in the business began mourning and offering condolences. However, R.A. the Rugged Man, a rapper, called the development the “worst news ever” on Twitter. GRAND DADDY I.U., the famed MC, poet, ghostwriter, and producer from Hempstead, Long Island, has died.

Dan Singer, a hip-hop artist, also expressed his regret on Twitter, writing, “My brother and I had the honour of meeting Granddaddy I.U. a few years ago, and we both express our sympathies to his family. However, hat guy was an excellent emcee and a true gentleman.” Ruben, a music producer, wrote, “I’m sad to hear about your grandfather’s death. The MC and producer were continually working till his tragic death.”

“R.I.P. to Grand Daddy IU…” wrote hip hop group Czarface. I used to listen to his song “Girl in the Mall” as a kid and imagine that anything could happen to me in Jordan Marsh on any given day. When it came down to it, telling a narrative from the OG was simple. And gosh, that voice.
