The first two films that Jayme Lawson booked after graduating from Juilliard proved the sky was the limit. First, she made her debut in the aching indie family drama Farewell Amor. Also, she followed Batman, playing a Gotham mayoral candidate. In the next three short years, Lawson commanded the screen in her roles like few young actors have, from political figures (Myrlie Evers-Williams, Michelle Obama) to Viola Davis’s daunting rival in The Woman King, Shante.

Sasha Lane and Jayme Lawson Talk about Going “Full Force” For Love in “How to Blow Up a Pipeline”

In “How to Blow Up a Pipeline,” Sasha Lane’s character. Theo doesn’t have too much to lose, making her quest for revenge even more unrelenting. Like the rest of the young activists who come together in the Texan desert to demolish an oil pipeline in the film. However, Theo has a good reason to want to harm the fossil fuel industry. Diagnosed with terminal cancer after growing up near a chemical plant, “she’s like . . . ‘might as well go out with a little bang,'” Lane tells Popsugar of her character’s mentality.

Spearheading the plot is Xochitl (Ariela Barer), who grew up dancing in poison-laced rain with Theo. After her mother dies in a freak heat wave, Xochitl loses patience with her university’s divestment movement and decides to wound the oil industry the way it has wounded her.

Daniel Goldhaber’s “How to Blow Up a Pipeline’ draws inspiration from Andreas Malm’s non-fiction manifesto. Also a call to arms that violent sabotage is the only logical response to world powers that refuse to take action. While the book is more of a “why” than a “how”, Goldhaber’s film takes a fully narrative route, centring on a group of activists who have had enough and decide to strike back by blowing up a vital Texas oil pipeline.

Of the eight saboteurs, two of them are played by Sasha Lane and Jayme Lawson. Their characters, Theo & Alisha, are lovers who decide to join the mission for different reasons.

Therefore, How to Blow Up a Pipeline is an incendiary piece of work. Also, having made a splash at its world premiere at TIFF last year. But what does it mean to delve into the life of an eco-terrorist? To live the life of a saboteur? I had the pleasure to speak with Sasha Lane and Jayme Lawson about their roles in the film. So their research into the lifestyle. Also, what the energy was like making a movie that could be seen as motivation to others to act.
