This development comes in the wake of the Steelers’ starting quarterback, Kenny Pickett, undergoing ankle surgery following a high ankle sprain sustained in the recent 24-10 loss to the Cardinals.
Trace McSorley, who played for the Nittany Lions from 2015 to 2018, is set to join his third team this year after his release from the Chicago Bears’ practice squad. The Ashburn, Virginia native, left an indelible mark at Penn State, recording impressive stats of 9,899 passing yards, 77 touchdowns, and 25 interceptions with a 59.3% completion rate during his three-year tenure as a starter.
Following his graduation, the Baltimore Ravens drafted McSorley in the sixth round of the 2019 NFL Draft. While serving as a backup, he contributed 90 passing yards, one touchdown, and a 30% completion rate in three appearances over two seasons. After being waived by the Ravens in 2021, McSorley had stints with Arizona and New England, showcasing his versatility in six games with the Cardinals.
