In a candid and heartfelt statement, Bryan Tanaka, Mariah Carey’s former boyfriend and backup dancer, has broken his silence regarding their recent split after seven years together. The 40-year-old dancer took to Instagram to share the news, emphasizing that the decision was mutual and expressing gratitude for the time they spent together.
Tanaka began his message by addressing their friends and fans, stating, “Dear friends and fans, with mixed emotions, I share this personal update regarding my amicable separation from Mariah Carey after seven extraordinary years together.” He continued, “Our decision to embark on different paths is mutual, and as we navigate these separate journeys, we do so with profound respect and an overwhelming sense of gratitude for the invaluable time we’ve shared. The memories we’ve created and the artistic collaborations are etched in my heart forever.”
The couple’s relationship had its roots in their professional collaboration, beginning in 2006 when Tanaka joined Carey’s Adventures of Mimi tour. The nature of their connection became public in 2017, and their journey was documented on Carey’s reality series, Mariah’s World. The split became the subject of speculation when Tanaka was noticeably absent from Carey’s tour in mid-November, and he didn’t participate in the Aspen, Colo., holiday celebrations with Carey, as he usually did.
Tanaka’s statement also expressed appreciation for Carey’s dedication to her family, including her twins with ex-husband Nick Cannon, Moroccan and Monroe.
