In a startling turn of events in global politics, former President Donald Trump employed his famed “peace through strength” strategy once more, this time to help Israel and Iran stop fighting. What happened? A precarious but historic finish to a twelve-day conflict that left the world apprehensive.
Karoline Leavitt, the White House Press Secretary, described Trump’s strategy as “the most secretive and successful military strikes in history.” It began with precision US airstrikes on Iran’s nuclear facilities. These attacks, which were apparently planned with the assistance of Israeli and NATO intelligence, devastated Tehran’s critical infrastructure, forcing the Islamic Republic to meet for talks. According to a recent joint intelligence briefing, US, Israeli, and Iranian sources now believe that the damage was extensive and lasting.
However, Trump wielded more than just military strength. At the NATO conference in the Netherlands, Trump urged both parties to back down. Mark Rutte, NATO Secretary-General, praised Trump’s diplomacy and referred to him as “a man of peace” in a public statement on his X account.
Trump halted a potential Israeli bombing with a blunt warning on Truth Social: “ISRAEL.” DON’T DROP THOSE BOMBS. After a few minutes, Israeli jets turned around.
Despite tensions and a lack of confidence between the two parties, Trump’s actions shown that raw strength, combined with rapid diplomacy, can reset even the most intractable difficulties. But Trump has made it clear that if Iran attempts to rebuild its nuclear weapons, the United States will respond with more force.
The world is currently keeping a close eye on the truce. Trump’s pressure campaign may not result in long-term peace, but it has prevented bombs from dropping for the time being.
