Customers Track Their Packages

Is your business shipping a lot of products? Have you ever put yourself in your customer’s shoes when it comes to awaiting a package? Once an item leaves your premises, it is not simply over and done with. You want to ensure that it gets to your customer in one piece and on time. The only way to monitor this is by offering tracking with packages. This is going to benefit business owners just as much as customers.

Let’s take a look at three reasons why you should allow customers to track their packages.

Keep Customers Informed

If you have ever offered your customers an untracked delivery service before, there is going to be one question you are asked all the time. Namely, you are going to be inundated with emails and receive telephone calls asking, ‘where is my parcel?’ Customers have high expectations and they can be quite impatient. They want their packages straight away and if they are late, even as a result of a delay out of your control, you are going to be blamed for it.

The reality is, competitors are offering tracked delivery services. So, you have no excuses anymore. Customers want to be informed at every step of the ordering process and this includes when a package has left your business premises. When you allow them to track their parcel, they are going to know where it is and when they can expect it to arrive. Not only will this cut down on the amount of hassle you are receiving, but it is also going to offer confidence to customers.

Just make sure that you have a system in place that both you and your customers understand. There are going to be a lot of terms used by different couriers. For example, Royal Mail can refer to terms that are obvious, such as ‘in transit’ or ‘item dispatched’. But, there can also be phrases like ‘outward RDC’ and you have to make sure that everybody knows what this is referring to.

Therefore, always take the time to learn everything and to give this information to customers so that they know too. This will prevent inquiries later on from confused customers.

Reduce Your Costs

Order inquiries could be costing you money. For example, say that you have chosen an untracked delivery service since this is an affordable way for your business to offer shipping all over the country. This could actually be counterproductive because customer service could be costing you more. In other words, you may think you are saving by choosing a cheaper delivery service, but if your team is always dealing with order inquiries, this is going to be taking up a lot of time and effort.

One of the best things about offering order tracking is that you are offering your customers an automated process to keep them informed. This should help to reduce the number of inquiries your team is experiencing, which can allow them to work on other tasks they have to do. It could also mean that you could cut down on the number of customer service staff you have, which could save money.

Ultimately, you are likely to pay more for tracking services. But, businesses should not be afraid of making this investment. In fact, it is starting to become a service that customers expect. So, not offering this perk may mean you lose business as a lot of customers will purchase from a competitor that will.

Be In Control

When you are constantly shipping different packages to customers, you want to make sure that they get to where they are supposed to be going. After all, your business can be held responsible if something goes missing. Therefore, offering package tracking is not something that just benefits customers. It is also going to offer advantages to you as a business owner.

You are going to be able to keep an eye on what is happening with your parcels. You will be alerted when they arrive at the delivery address and you can know that your job is done. What’s more, if you do see a problem developing, you can chase up what is happening with the courier.

You can do this before it becomes an issue for the customer and even before they spot it. So, you can rectify a situation before it is going to leave a bad impression on customers. Business owners can make sure that they are in control of what is happening.
