Patrizia Reggiani: Meet The Murderer of Maurizio Gucci

Patrizia Reggiani was a former consultant for Bozart Jewelry Company who has become a glaring instance for her unique crime. In her career, she worked with success and prominence. However, her life took a sharp turn when she was arrested on the charges of murdering her husband.

As a result of an appeal linked to her brain tumour, her sentence was reduced to 26 years. Nevertheless, after completing 18 years of her prison term, she was granted release in October 2016 for a two-year period of parole work, owing to her exemplary behaviour while incarcerated. If you wish to know more about her, then you should go through this article.

Patrizia Reggiani Early Life

To begin with, she breathed her first on December 2, 1948, in Vignola, Modena, northern Italy. Here let me tell you that her mother was a waitress and she witnessed poverty from the first day of her life.

Moreover, the identity of her biological father remains an elusive detail for us. At the age of 12, Patrizia’s mother entered into a marriage with Ferdinando Reggiani, a successful figure in the trucking industry.

As a result of this union, Patrizia was adopted by Ferdinando, and her last name was changed to Reggiani. Unfortunately, details regarding Patrizia’s siblings and any educational background she may have are not available in publicly accessible sources.

Personal Life

In 1970, Patrizia Reggiani crossed paths with Maurizio Gucci, the grandson of Guccio Gucci, at a party. Their connection blossomed, leading to their marriage in 1972, after which they relocated to New York.

Despite initial disapproval from Gucci’s father, Rodolfo, who believed Patrizia was a social climber, he later gifted the newlyweds a penthouse in New York City’s Olympic Tower as a wedding present. In 1976, their first daughter, Alessandra, was born, followed by the birth of their second child, Allegra, five years later.

Patrizia remained an active socialite in New York, frequently attending parties and fashion events. However, in 1982, the family made the decision to return to Milan.

The Murder of Her Husband

Where is She Now?

Though the relationship started well enough, things did not go as planned. In 1985, Maurizio embarked on a business trip to Florence, Italy. However, the following day, he opted to communicate with his wife through a friend, informing her that their marriage had come to an end.

Following their separation, Maurizio Gucci initiated a romantic relationship with his childhood friend, Paola Franchi, in 1990. Eventually, the divorce proceedings between Patrizia and Maurizio were concluded in 1994.

Unfortunately, Maurizio’s infidelity and his act of ending the marriage deeply affected Patrizia, leading to feelings of jealousy and resentment. A year after their divorce was finalized, Patrizia took a drastic step by hiring a hitman named Benedetto Ceraulo, who tragically shot and killed Maurizio at his private office located on Via Palestro 20 in Milan on March 27, 1995.

Patrizia’s continued financial support from the Gucci family is linked to the terms of their divorce settlement. As part of this agreement, she was entitled to receive an annual alimony of $1.47 million. Additionally, in accordance with the legal provisions, she was no longer permitted to use the Gucci last name.

Patrizia Reggiani Arrest

Patrizia Reggiani, along with her two accomplices, found themselves under arrest. During the investigation, a police officer assumed a false identity and recorded a call where he posed as the hitman, demanding the remaining payment for the murder of Maurizio.

The prosecution’s argument centred on the notion that Patrizia orchestrated the killing of her ex-husband to prevent his second marriage to Paola, which would have resulted in a significant reduction in her alimony payments.

However, Patrizia’s legal defence vehemently denied her involvement in the assassination, asserting that Pina, one of her accomplices, had framed her. In a surprising turn of events, Patrizia contradicted these statements, expressing that Maurizio’s murder was entirely justified and worth every lira.

Five months after the trial, Patrizia and her two accomplices were convicted of premeditated murder. Patrizia was sentenced to 29 years in San Vittore prison.

She appealed, claiming that a 1992 brain surgery had impaired her ability to plan a murder. In 2000, the Milan Appeals Court reduced her sentence to 26 years. Patrizia attempted suicide but was hospitalized.

In October 2011, she became eligible for parole with work release but declined, citing her lack of prior work experience. However, she accepted parole in 2014 and, demonstrating good behaviour, was released two years later.

Where is She Now?

To tell you the truth, she is still alive and resides in Milan. While she has expressed her reluctance to work for Gucci, she did engage in a role at Bozart in 2016. Her involvement at Bozart primarily involved advising the design team and staying updated on fashion trends by reading fashion magazines and testing the brand’s creations.
