Charles Kimbrough, who portrayed the stoic newscaster Jim Dial on the CBS sitcom Murphy Brown, has died. On January 11, he died at the age of 86 in Culver City, California.
John Kimbrough, the son of actor John Kimbrough, broke the heartbreaking news of his father’s death. Charles Kimbrough’s death has been considered suspicious, but the cause of death has yet to be revealed.
Charles Kimbrough only married twice in his entire life. His first wife, Mary Jane Wilson, filed for divorce in 1991.

Beth Howland, like Charles, had performed in front of a live audience. She used to work in the theatre. However, she was born on May 28, 1941, in Brighton, Massachusetts. Elizabeth Howland was her given name at the time.
Howland worked in both theatre and film during her acting career. She rose to prominence as waitress Vera Gorman in the sitcom Alice. Furthermore, she originated the character of Amy in Stephen Sondheim’s original Broadway production of Company. Among the musicals in which she appeared were Bye Bye Birdie, High Spirits, Drat! the Cat!, and Darling of the Day.

That’s correct; you saw it correctly. In 1961, she married actor Michael J. Pollard before marrying Murphy Brown’s Charles Kimbrough. After nearly eight years of marriage, the pair split in 1969. The ex-couples have a daughter together.
They married in 2002, and they have two children. So she and her partner remained together until her death three years later, in 2015. Charles and Beth both opted against starting a family.
What happened to Beth Howland?
In case you didn’t know, Charles’s wife Beth Howland died in 2015 and went to live with the Lord. She was 74 years old when she died on New Year’s Eve from lung cancer. Charles then conveyed the heartbreaking news that she had died, adding that she had expressly requested that no memorial or funeral services be held in her honor.
Charles had previously expressed Beth’s choice to avoid a funeral in an interview with The New York Times. “It was the Boston part of her personality coming out,” he commented at the time. She was hesitant to cause a scene.
