Happy Pet

Cats, dogs, and other pets make their owners happy, but how can we make sure that we make our pets happy in return? Follow the tips below for advice on how to make and keep your beloved furry friends happy and healthy. The below-mentioned tips will help you keep your furry friend a happy pet.

1. Plenty of exercise

Like us humans, our pets need plenty of exercise to stay healthy. If you have a dog, they’ll be getting some exercise from their daily walks – however, that might not be enough to satisfy their needs. Especially in the winter, when it’s cold and dark, you might be tempted to pull on the leash and hurry your dog back home as soon as it’s done its business.

Plenty of exercise

However, remember that dogs need different amounts of daily exercise, depending on their age, breed and health status. Indoor pets such as cats who live in flats also need their daily dose of exercise, which they get from chasing, scratching and climbing over things – as you will probably have noticed if you have a cat! To save both your cat’s health and your furniture, buy your cat appropriate cat trees and other toys such as those outlined this article. If you keep a smaller pet in a cage, such as a rabbit or a guinea pig, remember that they also need to be exercised every day!

2. Good preventative healthcare

Pets, like their owners, need good preventative healthcare to stay healthy. A veterinary clinic lists the steps that you should be taking to prevent infections and other health problems in your pets, including giving them all the required vaccinations and taking them to the vet for preventative treatment against fleas, ticks and heartworms each year.

Good preventative healthcare

Think of these routine procedures in the same way you would think about preventative healthcare for yourself or for your children: your child might cry when they get their vaccines and you might need to take time off work for their appointments, but it’s much better than having them get ill down the line!

Vet visits are unavoidable. So getting pet insurance should be a priority if you want to make sure your pets are getting the best treatment when they’re sick or when they are simply going to their scheduled checkups.

Unfortunately, pets can also become ill, so following the recommended preventative healthcare measures for your furry friends is key to ensure that they have a long and healthy life.

3. Adequate company makes a happy pet

Adequate company

Most pets are social animals, just like humans, and therefore they suffer when left alone for long periods of time. Dogs, in particular, are renowned for needing huge amounts of interaction.

A couple of years ago, the Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (RSPCA) published guidance stating that a dog should not be left alone for more than four hours at a time; after twenty per cent of responders to a survey said that they thought it was okay to leave dogs alone for over a day and a further thirty-nine per cent admitted to leaving their dogs alone for seven or more hours a day.

If you work long hours, consider hiring a dog walker to make sure that your dog is kept happy and in good company throughout the day.
