Ways To Declutter Home

As a homeowner, it’s not just a choice but also your responsibility to keep your abode clean and organized. Overly-decorated houses come off as clumsy and cluttered, and I’m sure you don’t want your home to be one of them. Well, did you know that in a 2014 survey, it was found that almost 6 percent of American adults have admitted that their homes are overly cluttered?

Irrespective of your undying efforts to keep your home tidy, sometimes it gets cluttered and messy. For you to succeed, you have to constantly be mindful of the objects and their positioning, such as the books, vases, school supplies, kitchen supplies and appliances, and so on.

I know it’s a task and so I’ve listed a few design tips and tricks with which you can declutter your house like a pro and give it a chic yet comfortable look.

1. Maximize storage space in the kitchen

The kitchen space is extremely prone to clutter, so you should begin your decluttering from here.

You can install more cabinets and small cupboards on the kitchen wall. I suggested my friend opt  self-storage and storage solutions Melbourne , when she shifted to her new overseas home as an option for storage cabinets. Also, make sure to keep the tabletops as empty as possible. This will give your kitchen a tidy look, and you will have ample storage for all your appliances and supplies.

2. Clear out the excess from the bedrooms

For decluttering your bedroom, you can start by making your bed and organizing your wardrobes. Ensure to install at least two bins in any two corners of the room. Remove all the unnecessary stuff from the side tables; throw wrappers and other rubbish in the bin, and keep all the scattered things in their original position. This may include phones, chargers, glasses, empty bottles, etc.

Having a clean bedroom is visually pleasing and adds to the aesthetic value of the house.

3. Get rid of things you don’t require anymore

Most of us buy more clothes and accessories than we need and gradually tend to get attached to them. So even if a dress or a shirt doesn’t fit, we tend to keep it and remember the happy memories linked with it. But let’s get real here, you can’t keep piling up because, in the end, it blocks the storage and limits the space for the new ones that you’re buying.

So, start by organizing your long dresses or pants on hangers while keeping the smaller clothes in racks, neatly folded. You can pile all your jeans and bottom on a different shelf and the accessories on another rack. Make space for shoes on the ground so that you still have space to stand comfortably.

While doing this, make two boxes and sort out the things you want to keep and the ones you want to discard. This will make the whole process much easier.

4. Organize the living rooms

Living rooms are the hardest to clean as they occupy the largest space in the house. You can start by organizing your bookshelf. Once you’re done, move on to the sofas, the cabinets, and coffee tables and toss out anything you think is useless

Throw all the paper clutter in the bin and keep all the objects in their original places.

5. Remove the objects you don’t use from the bathrooms

Bathrooms are generally smaller than the other rooms around the house. And within that small space, you need to organize and keep your essentials without making them look cluttered. You can start by throwing empty product bottles and sachets, which take up more space than you think they do.

Avoid over-decorating the walls, and keep the knobs and taps clean. Instead, install towel racks and neatly place the towels there. You can also use them as a clothes rack while taking a shower. This will give an elegant look to the bathroom and give you more floor space.

Over to you…

Decluttering is not an easy task. But if you adapt to the habit of placing the things where they are supposed to be, half of the work is already done. Further, you can apply these few designing hacks and see the difference!
