After a brief pre-order period, Apple’s iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Pro will begin delivery this week. These are the company’s flagship goods for the year. Therefore, expectations are high for them. The iPhone (actually, the iPhone Pro) has undergone numerous upgrades from Apple this year. A new high-resolution camera, a new display with a new UI paradigm, and the notch are all gone! Is all of that sufficient to support spending more than $1,000 on a new phone?
Here are some salient observations from our colleagues at other tech websites, pending the publication of our assessments of the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Pro.
Dynamic Island and the never-ending display delight
The iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max are the company’s first full-screen iPhones without a notch. The “Dynamic Island” is instead a sort of side-i-shaped cutout that transforms into an iOS play area. The Face ID pop-up, audio controls, Apple Pay confirmation, real-time activities, and so forth are examples of this.
Contrary to Android phones, which only display a limited clock and a few notification symbols, Apple’s always-on-display approach still allows you to see the lock screen in its entirety, although dimly. It is indeed “always on.”
The camera, on the other hand, isn’t any better
With the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max, Apple joins the procession of high-resolution cameras found on the greatest Android phones. The company is upgrading its main camera to 48MP from a 12-megapixel one. Most Android phone manufacturers offer models with resolutions ranging from 50MP to 200MP. The improvement in the quality of the outcomes, however, has significance as it might appear on paper, just like with their Android equivalents.
All things considered, the iPhone’s camera is still quite good. In this case, perhaps skilled photographers and third-party developers will need to maximize the iPhone’s capabilities.
The sundries
The batteries on the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max are all strong. The iPhone 13 was no different, and it’s encouraging to see Apple upholding its standards. Although some reviewers were slightly upset by the changeover to eSIM, it’s nothing that carriers can’t work out over the next few years. Few reviewers were ready to put the crash detection feature to the test, even though it appeared promising. The satellite communications support is similar.
Both are excellent and practical feature additions. However, they’re both specialized in that you’ll probably never need one and are unlikely to find yourself in a situation that requires the other.
Final thought
Apple is redesigning the iPhone X again this year. The previous form-factor for the iPhone is still available, but there is a new one now.
Even a Plus model is available. The iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max are for you if you want to leap into the future and experience what the upcoming iPhone years have in store.
The iPhone 14 is what Apple is selling if you’d like to hang onto the familiarity of the present for a little while longer.
