In a shocking upset at VCT LOCK/IN, Team Secret beat Team Liquid 2-0. Team Liquid made one of the most expected debuts at VCT LOCK/IN after changing their lineup during the off-season of 2022–2023. The head coach of the EMEA team said following the game that his players will require a while to develop as a unit before they meet the goals set for them.
Round 1 will feature eight games in LOCK/IN’s Group Omega, which has sixteen teams. Each competing team must give their all to stay in the competition because the tournament has a single-elimination format.
In preparation for the 2023 season, the EMEA team recruited former Gambit Gaming tag team Igor “Redgar” Vlasov and Ayaz “nAts” Akhmetshin, as well as former Guild Esports sniper Saif “Sayf” Jibraeel.
As Team Liquid was paired with Team Secret, a VCT Pacific international league squad that had yet to compete on the international stage since 2021, many spectators and commentators believed that Team Liquid would easily get past the first round of the competition.
Team Liquid Performs Poorly at VCT LOCK/IN
The EMEA squad struggled and was defeated by Team Secret in two straight maps in the team’s first international matchup. The head coach of Team Liquid, Emil ‘eMIL’ Sandgren, stated that this lineup needs a while to develop before it gets better in post-game press conferences.
Because of our many differing playstyles, the combining of various teams, our communication, culture, and other factors, you must allow [the squad] some time to improve, according to eMIL. Hence, improvement will simply take a little longer.
Dom “souls” Sulcas, a member of Team Liquid, also disclosed that the squad had suffered visa-related difficulties, negatively impacting practicing. But sources insisted he didn’t want to use that as a justification for their bad performance.
Team Liquid appears to have the advantage over Team Secret in VCT 2022 based on their previous performance and experience. Before fans can witness this Liquid roster again, they will have to wait until the VCT EMEA international league starts. During VCT LOCK/IN, Team Secret will continue to the second round and play once more on February 25. The results of Group Alpha have surprised many fans, nevertheless, as newly established teams could confuse senior rosters with their armory of weapons and unexpected tactics.
