Aitana Bonmati, a famous soccer player from Barcelona and Spain, thinks that even though women’s soccer has improved a lot, there’s still a long way to go. She believes we should keep working to make things better for ourselves and the kids who play in the future.
Aitana, who won the World Cup, said,
“Yes, of course, [over] the past years we had a lot of changes but there is still a lot to improve.”
“We are always building for equality to have good conditions, to be treated as professional footballers.”
“I would like to keep fighting because I would like the next generation to have a better life than we have today, and I think past generations fought for us to have a better life today.”
Aitana is 25 years old and recently talked to the BBC about making things equal for everyone in soccer. People say she might win the Ballon d’Or this year. But she knows there’s more work to do.
Even though there have been some good changes, the women’s game still has a way to go before it’s just as professional as the men’s game. Aitana will play soccer with Jenni Hermoso in the upcoming Nations League games. Jenni Hermoso is a player from Pachuca and just came back to the national team after the World Cup final.
After Spain won against England with a score of 1-0, the former president of the Spanish Football Federation, Luis Rubiales, kissed Hermoso. She later said that she didn’t want that kiss. Hermoso and her teammates said they wouldn’t play for the national team as long as Rubiales was in charge. In September, Hermoso went to court about the kiss. At first, Rubiales didn’t want to quit his job, but FIFA stopped him from working while they checked things. Later, he did quit.

The manager of the team, Jorge Vilda, was also fired because of this problem. His assistant, Montse Tome, took over as the new manager. Tome said there was never a problem between her and Hermoso. She explained that she didn’t pick her for the last game because she thought it was best for her. But they kept in touch, and she’s been doing better. They’re excited to have her back on the team and look forward to the Olympic Games in the future.
Aitana Bonmati is a symbol of greatness and hope for people who believe in the potential for change in the world of women’s football. Her journey from a small club to the international arena is one of tenacity and unshakable dedication. Everyone can be inspired by Aitana’s support of gender equality in sports, which serves as a constant reminder that the battle for equality must go on.
While we applaud Aitana Bonmati’s accomplishments, we also need to recognize the amount of work left to be done to bring about true equality in women’s football. By working together, we can uphold Aitana’s legacy by encouraging and supporting women’s participation in the sport all around the world.
