Anthony Joshua, the former heavyweight champion two times, had come out blazing against Deontay Wilder when he questioned his identity. This was occasioned by a comment of Wilder about the former champion, and that has stirred an outrage from the champion.
The enduring rivals are set to share the spotlight in a major event scheduled for December 23 in Saudi Arabia. Joshua is slated to face off against seasoned contender Otto Wallin, while Wilder is gearing up for a clash of former champions against Joseph Parker. If Joshua and Wilder emerge victorious in their matches, there’s a strong likelihood that they may face each other in the early part of 2024.
Wilder expresses concern that Joshua may be grappling with his own identity, suggesting that he wasn’t entirely self-made in the world of boxing. He stated that he is apprehensive about every fight Joshua enters. He added that there is a question mark surrounding his identity. As per him, Joshua was crafted into a champion by Eddie Hearn as he claimed he was not to be an inherently born champion.
Joshua contradicts Wilder’s perspective on the issue, asserting that he progressed much more rapidly than Wilder did. While speaking to The Sun, he stated that Wilder is no one to talk about his identity as he is a boxer and not a psychologist. He pointed out:
“The boy has had 50 fights and he fought Jason Gavern in his 30-something fight, I probably fought him in my twelfth.”
He further affirmed that they are different and so are their identities. He reaffirmed his faith in his ‘robust’ personality. He came clean as he stated:
“If they’re looking for weaknesses and gaps, then they need to stop looking over here because I’m solid.”
