Microsoft has upgraded the Windows 11 photo app as part of the Windows 11 2022 Update. Photos app for Windows 11 is currently rolling out and promises to improve how users manage photos. It integrates OneDrive backups and makes Clipchamp the default video editing tool. According to Microsoft’s Dave Grochocki, the new Windows 11 Photos app updates the gallery and makes it easier to browse, search, manage, and enjoy photos. Some Windows Insiders get access to the new Photos app through the Dev Channel.

Additionally, Microsoft removed the old Windows 11 Photos app’s video editor and replaced it with Clipchamp. It is a video editor that offers “basic” skills like chopping and splitting as well as “pro-style” features like transitions and animated text. In a Windows 11 preview released last year, Microsoft included Clipchamp to its collection of pre-bundled “inbox” programmes.

The Microsoft Photos Legacy programme, which includes the legacy video editor, is still accessible through the Microsoft Store. In September 2021, Microsoft acquired Clipchamp with the primary intention of integrating it with Microsoft 365 for individuals, businesses, and educational institutions. In addition to OneDrive integration for simpler cloud backups, the new Photos app offers a new “Memories” experience.

Users can add more storage by checking their OneDrive storage quota utilization. OneDrive and Clipchamp are already linked for the purpose of backing up altered movies. “The update adds a stunning gallery, making it easier to browse, search, manage, and consume your photo collection. Additionally, it delivers a fun “Memories” experience, powerful experiences on Windows devices, and a simple way to backup your images with OneDrive “Grochocki stated.

The New Update of Windows 11 Photo App

In his announcement of the Windows 11 2022 Update, Panos Panay, Microsoft EVP and chief product officer of Windows and Devices, mentioned the new Windows 11 Photos app along with the new multi-tabbed File Explorer, the Suggested Actions feature after copying something to the clipboard, the Taskbar overflow menu, and the nearby share feature. Here are some features Insiders can test out with this Photos app update:

  • Experiences that are better “Memories” will help you celebrate a life well lived.
  • Multi-window and multi-screen productivity
  • View your OneDrive storage usage with ease and increase your storage capacity.
  • Manage and import your photographs from external devices like your camera and phone.

The experience provided by the previous version of the Windows 11 Photos app (2022.31090.16004.0 and higher) will be replaced by this upgrade. We unveiled Clipchamp, our new inbox video editor, earlier this year with the goal of making Windows video creation simple, quick, and enjoyable.

The historical Video Editor is no longer a part of the new Photos app experience because Clipchamp has all the fundamental capabilities you’d expect. It includes editing and splitting, as well as additional pro-style features, like transitions and animated text. The old Photos app will still be accessible in the Microsoft Store if that is what you wish to do.
