Table of Contents

  • 1. Clean Your Skin Thoroughly and Slowly
  • 2. Use Toner to Remove Excess Oil
  • 3. Use Acne Treatment Medication
  • 4. Apply Oil-Free Moisturizer
    • The Bottom Line

1. Clean Your Skin Thoroughly and Slowly

Probably one of the most important steps of skincare is cleaning the face with a cleanser. While doing so, use only your fingertips or a soft washcloth. Do not use rough pads or scrub aggressively as it will only irritate your skin rather than cleaning it. You should also ensure to use the right cleanser for your skin type.

Try to stick to mild ones. You can try the acne treatment face wash if you have mild breakouts. If you are already using prescription medication, better stick to a non-medicated cleanser. If you wear makeup throughout the day, repeat the cycle at night to ensure that you remove every trace of makeup off your face. Antibacterial soaps are good for your hand but not your face as it uses harsh chemicals hence stick to a mild face wash.

2. Use Toner to Remove Excess Oil

Toner or astringents are essential additions to hydrate your skin after a face wash and remove excess oil as well. You can use a cotton pad to apply toner to your face and neck. This also held to remove the leftover makeup. Astringents are specifically designed to remove excess oil, hence work best for oily skin. If your skin type is oily, then this will be perfect for you. But, if your skin tends to e dry, it is better to choose a hydrating toner to moisturize it.

Remember to check the ingredients of the product before you buy one, as the alcohol content can be really drying and irritating. Especially if your skin is sensitive better, go for an alcohol and paraben-free product as alcohol-based toners tend to sting even if your skin is not dry, but you have open acnes.

But, this is not a mandatory step, and if you feel the toner is drying your face or irritating your skin, you can skip it.

3. Use Acne Treatment Medication

The next step after your toner has dried completely is to use your acne treatment creams as directed. You can either use medication prescribed by a dermatologist or go for an over-the-counter acne cream or gel effective in your skin. You should ensure that you understand the cause of acne, as if you are suffering from fungal acne, then the regular acne treatment will not work. Whatever medication you use, let the product get absorbed in your skin completely before proceeding to the next step.

4. Apply Oil-Free Moisturizer

If you have oily skin, you may think you need to skip this step, but you mustn’t skip it. Especially if you are using acne medications, it can dry your skin out; hence, apply a light moisturizer to reduce the dryness.

The Bottom Line

To get good results, you need not use expensive skincare products, but mainly you need to be consistent with the steps. Once you feel a set of products suits your skin, be consistent, and you will notice results in a few weeks.
