There have already been positive reviews of this week’s highly anticipated superhero film, Black Adam. Both DC and Warner Bros. have high hopes for the box-office success of the film. Starring Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson will hopefully do well
However, the studio’s prospects aren’t looking great based on the early responses. There have been voices saying this film is average at best and terrible at worst within the DCEU canon. Not to mention, The Rock’s charisma and good looks make him an ideal superhero.
The opinions of critics on Black Adam are all over the map
Black Adam received a 52% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes, which is a result of the film’s mixed critical reception. The site compiles user feedback and classifies it as either “fresh” or “rotten”. The percentage reflects the proportion of viewers who enjoyed the film.
In the Independent’s words, it was. “Like being picked up at the curb by the FBI and having a cloth bag thrown over my head” as the car sped off into the night.
It’s a superhero movie, but even by those low standards. It fails to impress with its shallow plot, uninspired characters, and uninteresting direction. There’s no use in denying the 270-pound wrestler in the room, as Vanity Fair put it.
Among the many positive reviews, Forbes referred to it as “a joyfully over-the-top action fantasy tentpole. The movie has a similar budget to a Warner Bros film. But it delivers the kind of pulpy, low-stakes fun typical of a New Line production.

Actor Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson is becoming increasingly well-known for his work
The Rock was successful in winning over critics despite receiving mixed reviews. It’s fascinating to see how Johnson conceptualised this violent antihero. He doesn’t so much fly as stalk through the air. Striking at his foes as though they were nothing more than CG pixels. The character benefits greatly from this side project. Because it sets him up for future adventures that will be “less predictable than this one,” to quote The Hollywood Reporter.
According to Total Film, Johnson is able to keep his cool and successfully carry the show. If you can get past the muddle, Adam’s film has promise, but it’s more of an extended, over-the-top introduction than a sure thing like Batman Begins.
Even at Warner Bros., Black Adam is a major player
Even though fans are upset with the studio for cancelling several movies (including Batgirl), they have a lot of faith in Black Adam. To make up for the billions of dollars it had lost in recent years, Warner Bros. hoped this film would do well.
Now that word of mouth is driving the film’s success (since critics don’t seem to like it), it will be interesting to see if audiences agree with the critics and don’t like the movie, or if they end up loving it.
On October 21, theatres will start showing the new film Black Adam. Dwayne Johnson, Aldis Hodge, Noah Centineo, Sarah Shahi, Marwan Kenzari, Quintessa Swindell, Bodhi Sabongui, and Pierce Brosnan are among the cast members.
