Having scored twice, Bruno Fernandes helped Portugal to a 5-0 win over Nigeria in the International Cup. Portugal now lead Group B with four points from two games. Meanwhile, Nigeria has one point from a match against Zambia and a draw against Cameroon.
This leaves the African champions with a mountain to climb in the group stage of the competition.
1. Bruno Fernandes

Despite Portugal’s disappointing recent form, they have managed to put four past Nigeria in a warm-up match for the World Cup. They were without Cristiano Ronaldo due to illness, but that didn’t stop them from beating Nigeria 4-0 in their final warm-up game before the tournament in Qatar. Portugal was dominant from the off. They kept the Super Eagles at bay for most of the first half. But Nigeria came to life in the second half. They started to create chances, albeit without much success.
Joao Felix was the only Nigerian to make an impression, but he squandered a chance to score the second goal. A whipped low pass from Bernardo Silva was too far ahead of him and he couldn’t get a shot off. The Super Eagles defence had resorted to playing a short-corner game, but it didn’t seem to work.
A minute after the restart, Portugal broke the deadlock. Bruno Fernandes scored the first goal. He was introduced to the starting line-up for the first time in a match, replacing Ruben Dias. Several half-time changes did little to change Portugal’s dominant display.
2. Cristiano Ronaldo

Despite missing their superstar Cristiano Ronaldo, Portugal were too strong for Nigeria in their final warm-up match before the World Cup. They defeated the Super Eagles 4-0 at Estadio Jose Alvalade in Lisbon.
The Nigerians were out of form this year, losing three of their last four friendly matches. They haven’t won since March. The last time they scored a victory was in a 3-1 win over Egypt. However, they have improved in the second half.

After a poor start, Portugal managed to take the lead after two minutes. Joao Felix collected a pass on the left side of the box and fired a shot at goal. The ball went over the head of Nigeria keeper Setkus. Fortunately, Rui Patricio dived to his right and diverted the ball off target.
Joao Mario added a fourth goal for Portugal in the 84th minute, with Portugal going into the break with a 4-0 lead. Portugal’s first World Cup match will be against the Black Stars of Ghana on November 24.
3. Chukwueze

Despite losing three of their last four matches, Nigeria have been unable to stop Portugal in their tracks. The Portuguese Selecao put four past the Super Eagles in their first meeting. It was a disappointing game for Nigeria. They are now without a win in friendly matches for the fifth time in a row. Despite this, Fernando Santos’ side showed a lot of fight in the second half.
Despite playing without Cristiano Ronaldo, Portugal was still able to find the net four times. Fernandes and Mendes each scored a goal, with Bruno Fernandes netting two in the first half. Mario added a goal in the second half.
While Portugal had plenty of chances, Nigeria didn’t make much of them. A wasted penalty kick paved the way for the late goals. Then, in the 78th minute, Emmanuel Dennis missed a penalty kick and missed the chance to score.
Nigeria’s best chance of the game came in the 71st minute. Bassey whips a low ball into the area. Rui Patricio saves it. But the shot was tipped off the post yalla shoot.
4. Ansu Fati

During his time in Spain, Ansu Fati has earned a fair share of admiration. He has impressed in Barcelona’s shirt this season, and scored two goals against Villarreal in the Group Stage. He will be eligible for a number of national teams, including Spain and La Roja. He’s also eligible for the U-17 World Cup, and is expected to play in that tournament. During the summer, he had a release clause of PS367 million, so he’s signed a five-year contract with the club.
After a shaky start, Portugal began to control the game in the second half. They thumped Nigeria 4-0 in a World Cup warm-up match. Joao Mario scored four goals, while Bruno Fernandes and Goncalo Ramos also hit the net.
The game was a huge surprise, as Portugal had not been beaten in three straight games, and were playing their last game before the World Cup. However, Nigeria had lost five straight friendly matches without a victory, and were out to end that run.
