In Overwatch 2, Cassidy’s kit was reworked, and as a result, he now has a Magnetic Grenade, which some fans fear might deal too much damage. Cassidy’s Magnetic Grenade in Overwatch 2 is excessively damaging for some players and needs to be toned down. In Overwatch 2, Cassidy lost his Flashbang, but he now has a substitute move that can be just as useful in battle. That might be too strong.
There will be huge reworks for many of the Overwatch 2 cast members, and Cassidy’s Magnetic Grenade is a top priority. Many Overwatch characters received significant improvements before the release of Overwatch: Warcraft II to match the sequel’s 5v5 gameplay and greatly reduced crowd-control abilities.
One important change was the replacement of Cassidy’s infamous Flashbang with a Magnetic Grenade, which would attach to enemies before detonating and causing significant damage. Fans are dissatisfied with the ability. Thus more improvements are being considered.
Alec Dawson, the lead hero designer for Overwatch 2, revealed what the team has in store for Cassidy during a recent Reddit AMA in response to a query about changes to the cowboy’s kit.
The OW2 Rework of Cassidy was Disclosed
The Overwatch 2 developer indicated that internal modifications to Cole Cassidy have already been made to restore synergy to his kit. The developer said that Mac Grenade is “very flat in what it accomplishes, and while certain abilities can be in this space, Cassidy’s kit already has a lot of simplicity, making Magnetic Grenade a perfect candidate for modifications.”
Some examples mentioned include Mei’s Cryo-Freeze, Kiriko’s Quick Step, Sombra’s Translocator, and Moira’s Fade. They also stated that the rest of Cassidy’s equipment was lacking at the time, making the Magnetic Grenade one of the character’s few current best features.
However, Dawson ruled out the chance of Flash Bang returning in Overwatch 2, so don’t hold your breath for it. Yet, a Magnetic Grenade will act relatively similar to it. We won’t be in full shock mode like Flash Bang. Still, Dawson continued, “we’re thinking of ways to turn Magnetic Grenade into a feature that also enables Cassidy to match up more shots or provides newfound utility.”
The developer should have detailed the improvements, or when we would see them in-game, so we might have to wait a little longer, given that Season 4 is still a ways off.
There will be quite a few changes coming up, so players should keep an eye out for them. In addition to Cassidy, the developers have also stated they need to rework Brigitte, Sombra, and Roadhog in the future.
