Cast of White Men Can’t Jump

Sinqua Walls, known for his previous roles in “Friday Night Lights” and “Teen Wolf,” takes on the central character of Kamal Allen. Kamal is a former high school basketball star who now finds himself navigating the competitive world of Los Angeles’ outdoor basketball courts.

Walls’ portrayal adds depth and authenticity to Kamal’s journey, capturing the essence of a young athlete striving to make a name for himself in a sport he loves.

In the role of Jeremy, we have the multi-talented musician Jack Harlow. Jeremy, akin to the original character of Billy, uses his unique skills on the court to hustle other players, relying on their underestimation of his abilities due to his skin color.

This character marks Harlow’s first foray into acting, and his transition from the music industry to the silver screen showcases his versatility as an artist.

Teyana Taylor portrays Imani, a character who begins the film exasperated by Kamal’s relentless pursuit of basketball fame at the expense of other aspects of his life. Teyana Taylor, celebrated for her singing and appearances on reality shows, adds depth and charisma to Imani’s character, making her an integral part of the story’s emotional landscape.

The film also features Vince Staples as Speedy, one of Kamal’s cousins. Laura Harrier, recognized for her roles in “Spider-Man: Homecoming” and “BlacKkKlansman,” steps into the shoes of Tatiana, Jeremy’s girlfriend.

Myles Bullock portrays the other half of the dynamic cousin duo as Renzo. Bullock, with prior experience in television shows like “Runaways” and “Black Mafia Family,” brings his talent to the big screen as Renzo.

Lance Reddick, a seasoned actor recognized for his roles in “John Wick” and “The Wire,” plays Benji Allen, Kamal’s father, primarily appearing in flashback sequences. Reddick’s presence adds gravitas to the character of Benji, shaping the backstory of Kamal’s basketball journey.

While these central characters drive the narrative, the film also introduces an array of supporting characters, each played by talented individuals who contribute to the movie’s rich tapestry.

  • Tamera Kissen takes on the role of Sheila, adding depth to the film’s supporting cast.
  • Zak Steiner portrays Phillip Williamson, contributing his skills to the ensemble.
  • Andrew Schulz embodies TJ, further enhancing the movie’s diverse character roster. Schulz, primarily known as a stand-up comedian, showcases his versatility as he ventures into the world of acting.
  • J. Alphonse Nicholson assumes the character of Jermaine, bringing his unique style and presence to the film. Nicholson is renowned for his role as Lil Murda in the series “P-Valley.”
  • Aiden Shute takes on the role of Drew, marking his first movie role. Shute’s contribution to the film’s supporting cast adds depth and authenticity.
  • Bentley Green, known for his role in the legal drama “61st Street,” portrays Jacoby, a character with a significant presence in the narrative.
  • James Earl embodies Mooch, adding his distinctive touch to the supporting ensemble. Earl’s previous work in films like “Gridiron Gang” and “The Belko Experiment” showcases his versatility as an actor.

Reviews

The 1992 movie was a clever and funny addition to the sports comedy genre, with a 77% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes. The fantastic chemistry between Snipes and Harrelson was a vital part of the film’s success, and their characters have become iconic over time.

However, the White Men Can’t Jump 2023 reviews are not that good. Most viewers said that it lacked the charm and energy of the first film. It only got a rating of 5.1 in IMBD. Rotten Tomatoes was not kind of it either. It got only a 26% rating over there.

Conclusion

The new “White Men Can’t Jump” in the year 2023 brings together talented actors to make a fun and interesting version of the old favorite. Each actor adds their own special skills and charm to make the movie feel like the original but with a modern touch.

People are excited to see this updated sports comedy, and the cast’s performances will be a big part of why it’s so much fun to watch. It’s like a fresh and entertaining adventure on the basketball courts of Los Angeles, especially for a new group of fans.
