The American comedian and actress Cheryl Hines has a single biological daughter named Catherine Rose Young. On March 8, 2004, Cheryl gave birth to Catherine when she was still married to her ex-husband, Paul Young. The mother-daughter pair appears similar to one another and has a strong attachment.
“I think one good one, and I’m out,” Hines told PEOPLE about whether or not she planned to have more kids. “I know people have more than one kid and they manage to divide the time, but I don’t know if I could do it. I like having one that I can give everything to.”
Although Hines is now a devoted stepmother to her husband, Robert F. Kennedy Jr.’s six children, she still has a particularly close relationship with Catherine, whom she lovingly refers to as Cat.

On December 30, 2002, Hines and Young tied the knot. On March 8, 2004, a year and a half later, their daughter was born. The couple filed for divorce and divided custody of Catherine when she was six years old.

Catherine is a student of college
In June 2022, Catherine Rose Young completed her high school education, and her mother was ecstatic about the accomplishment.
“One day we’re twirling around in teacups & the next day you’re graduating from high school! Cat, my beautiful girl, I’m so proud of you,” Hines wrote on Instagram. “You’re smart, bold, beautiful, funny, thoughtful & you just radiate light.”
After two months, the mother-daughter team packed their bags and headed out on a road trip to drop Catherine off at college.

Six Kennedy siblings were born into the marriage when Catherine’s mother married Robert F. Kennedy Jr. in August 2014, four years after her parents’ divorce. In the same year, Hines told PEOPLE, “[He’s] a devoted dad and an all-around good guy.”
Hines was looking forward to bringing their clans together before the wedding. She told PEOPLE, “It’s fun that the two families are coming together,” she told PEOPLE. “It’s very sweet that way. I come from a big family and the Kennedys are a big family. It feels natural. It feels fun.”
Kennedy most recently declared for president in October 2023 with the backing of his wife.
In an April statement received by PEOPLE, she wrote, “My husband, Robert Kennedy Jr., announced today he will be running for President and I support his decision.”

In May 2023, Hines disclosed that she and her daughter had established a cosmetic company, following her original hint of a partnership.
“I can finally share that my daughter Cat and I are launching a self care line Hines+Young!” she mentioned on Instagram, calling the occasion “one of the most exciting days” of her life.
Hines continued, saying she was “so thrilled to start this journey together” and that she is “constantly inspired and amazed by” her daughter.

Though it might seem like a lot to take on at once, Hines had a grand plan to stay in touch with her daughter while she was away at school, which included starting a business and going to college.
“I was getting so sad that she was about to leave home, and I was trying to figure out a way to keep her close to me in a different way other than living together,” She said to Morning Honey.
“Of course, she’s growing up and needs to move out and be on her own, but I also wanted to empower her as a young woman. I asked her if we could start a company together.”
