Originally Founded In 1895, The Main House Is Still Standing Today
The year 1895 saw the foundation of the main house of the property. Indeed, director Bob Clark gave birth to the idea of setting “A Christmas Story” in the mid-19th century. He started questing for a suitable location and visited nearly two dozen cities in search of it. This is after a century and a half later the foundational year of the main house.
After much contemplation, the decision surfaced that Higbee’s in downtown Cleveland and the Victorian home on 11th Street would serve as the ideal locations for shooting in 1983. Depictions of Ralphie’s childhood home rested on the exterior and interior of the house. It also included the opening of the leg lamp. We also saw some other interior scenes.
Around 21 years after the film’s release, a fan and entrepreneur Brian Jones bought the house for $150,000. In November 2006, Jones started to offer public tours of the structure. Jones conducted extensive renovations of the house to make it a single-family dwelling. He carved out a near-perfect replica of the movie set.
