The question still lingers in everyone’s mind about what happened to one of Hollywood’s talented and promising child stars. The newly released documentary My Truth: The Rape of Two Coreys, by Corey Feldman, includes all the details about the assaults faced by the child actors in the industry.
Who was Corey Haim?
Corey Ian Haim, as was his original name, was born on December 23, 1971, to Judy and Bernie Haim in Toronto, Canada. After the parents’ divorce, he came to stay with his mother in Willowdale in 1982. Initially, he was a fairly shy kid and to build up his confidence, his mother enrolled him in drama, mime and improvisation classes.
The classes yielded good results and he bagged a role in the educational comedy series The Edison Twins when the producer noticed him as his sister was auditioning for various roles. He was just 10 years old at that time.
The show was reported to have filmed for only two years 1984-1985 but that started the career of this promising talent. Then he appeared in the thriller Firstborn alongside Peter Weller where he played a 13-year-old boy trapped in a house with his mother’s boyfriend.
On their first day at the sets, he was screamed at by Weller as he attempted to compliment him. Weller later apologised for the act, blaming it as an effect of his method of acting. This incident shocked him to the core enough for him to not turn up at the set the next day.
But the actor continued to land roles in notable corey haim movies like Secret Admirer, Murphy’s Romance, and Stephen King’s Silver Bullet. The breakout role came with the movie Lucas where he played the titular character with co-stars Kerri Green, Charlie Sheen, and Winona Ryder. Like in the film, he falls in love with Green in real life but she turned down his proposal and the heartbreak inspired his performance.
It was during this time that he turned to drinking as well paving the way for his slipping into drugs.
Sexual Assaults and Accusations in Hollywood
It is through the autobiography of Corey Feldman that we get to know about the sexual assault faced by Haim in detail. Feldman writes that he came up with similar complaints to him that he had been molested by senior professionals in the entertainment industry for years. The actor claims that it was through this shared trauma that the two connected and later became best friends.
Feldman spoke to a popular journal about the abuse but refused to name names from the industry as he did not want to pain the late actor’s mother any more.
The recent documentary My Truth: The Rape of Two Coreys, by Corey Feldman, includes all the details about the assaults faced by the child actors in the industry. One of the many shocking revelations in this film was the allegations of Feldman that Charlie Sheen raped Haim in the sets of Lucas, who was then 13. Sheen was 19 at that time.
Haim’s mother came up with another shocking revelation in her 2017 appearance on The Dr. Oz Show. She said it was not Sheen but Dominick Brascia who raped her son. This was further confirmed by Feldman. However, the actor denied the allegation.
How Did He Die at 38?
He started drinking during the time of filming Lucas and later tried marijuana. He has himself asserted that the filming of License to Drive was his “breaking point” for becoming addicted to drugs.
Incidents have come up when he would halt the production to call Toronto to check whether his dog is dead and further sudden medical emergency required the filling of prescriptions. He had been to rehabilitation 15 times in 2001 for his drug addiction and was placed with prescribed medicines.
These were even the ones he began to abuse. Feldman has spoken about the repeated overdose of drugs he faced and how he vowed not to talk to him until he gets himself cleaned. It was in 2004, that he appeared to overcome his addiction when his mother persuaded him to return to Toronto to settle down.
It was on March 10, 2010, when his mother called 911 for paramedical help which took him to Providence Saint Joseph Medical Centre in Burbank that he was pronounced dead at 2:15 am. He had flu-like symptoms two days before his death but the doctor suspected nothing critical during his checkup.
The initial reports of the Los Angeles police named it a case of drug overdose as they retrieved bottles containing Valium, Vicodin, Soma (a muscle relaxant) and Haloperidol (an antipsychotic) were retrieved.
Later the autopsy report on May 4, 2010, claimed him to have died of diffuse alveolar damage and pneumonia with other aggravated conditions. The corey haim death was finally ruled to be a natural one.
