David Archuleta paid tribute to the late George Michael by unveiling a star on the Path of Angels before the Los Angeles nonprofit Project Angel Food on Monday. During the ceremony, he delivered an emotional speech reflecting on the profound impact of the Wham! The frontman has had on his life.
After the revelation, the singer of “Crush” candidly discussed with The Messenger his journey of navigating life in the public eye since publicly coming out in June 2021, as well as his continuing connection with the Mormon church.
In an interview with The Messenger, he shared that he is now closing a chapter. He addressed the Mormon Church as his people. He added further by stating:
“That’s all I knew up until two years ago. And I kept trying to get their approval, trying to get accepted, trying to help them understand. A lot of them have, and I’m so grateful to them, but…”
During the star dedication ceremony for the late George Michael at Project Angel Food in Los Angeles on Monday, the singer and former American Idol contestant shared with PEOPLE about embracing his authentic self, despite the teachings of his former community.
He stated that before coming out, he was a member of the family, as the Mormon Church community accepted him. However, this time, he stated:
“But this time, I just kind of put to the side, not really greeted by anyone other than a couple of people. And it was just…I realized they’ve moved on from me.”

It is apparent that he felt unaccepted and different, precisely what he claimed to the media. A long tie seems to have snapped all of a certain and the effects are not good for him.
