The question, did John Wick really die is something that troubles many of the fans of John Wick. Well, the source of this trouble is the shocking ending of John Wick: Chapter 4. If you have not yet streamed the chapter, you must know that we find John dead at the end of the chapter.
Then, one might ask, where is the trouble here? Well, that is an obvious question when we have clearly seen the death of the titular hero at the end of the chapter.
However, things are not that simple. If you have watched the chapter closely, then you might have noticed multiple clues signalling the survival of John. Interested? Well, then you should go through this article.
What Chapter 4 Showed?
Chapter 4, like the other sequels of the series, is an action-packed thriller. However, this time the action sequences are really ground-breaking ones. In this tightly action-packed content, we witness the journey of John, who tries to get back to normal life from being an assassin for many years.
However, the return to normalcy is made difficult by people chasing him for his head. This is where the fourth chapter raises our eyebrows. In a duel with Caine, the hero gets killed. After an emotional last moment, we get to know that he is buried in New York.
The Resounding Doubt
Well, if a series enjoys success and popularity, will a studio kill it? That is the specific question that the ending of the fourth chapter presents us with. The success of this concerned chapter has been huge, with a collection of $432 million.
However, it is for sure that the fifth chapter is on its way. If you have closely followed the fourth chapter, you might have noticed that the developers left certain clues in it, which suggest that the game might not have been over.
Decoding The Clues
The Burial
Well, at the end of the last chapter, we witnessed the supposed death of John, and we have also learnt of his burial in New York. But wait! Have we seen his burial? No! At the end, we find the Bowrey King and Winston standing near his grave. But his burial has not been shown to us.
If you notice carefully, you might see long grass grown on and around the grave. So, that means that the scene is also not from his burial day. So, like some other acting thrillers, the off-screen death of the hero might just suggest his surprise return.
The Alternate Ending
To air the doubts further, Director Chad Stahelski admitted that the chapter had an alternate ending. That ending shows the survival of John. However, as that scene performed badly during the screening, he had to cut it off. Yet, he is working on a director’s cut, which might include that scene. So, that can do wonders in solving the resounding doubt about the ending.
Winston And The Bowrey King: Powerful Duo
When you have two highly powerful allies in the Bowrey King and Winston there is every chance that they might fake your death. Given the fact that the duo has access to powerful connections, money and weaponry, it is easy for them to fake John’s death.
John’s Pit Bull
In the cemetery scene, we also have John’s, Pit Bull. In that scene, we find the dog perk up his ears and looking sideways. It seems that it might have sensed something or might have even smelt his master. Any regular audience of the series would know that the dogs in the series are highly skilled. So, the chances seem plausible.
John Has Seen Worser Days
Well, the fight with Caine is nowhere closer to the worst days for John. Throughout the series, he has sustained more than 200 injuries which included stabbings, throwing down from windows and others.
But, he survived all of those. Moreover, the shot from Caine was not even a headshot. In chapter three, he was also fatally shot. But the great doctor saved his life. So, is it impossible for him to consult the same doctor again?
A Major Absence
At the end of the chapter, at the cemetery, it felt strange to witness the absence of most of John’s close allies. So, that is obviously eerie.
Marquis Vincent de Gramont
In the fourth chapter, Marquis comments that John is like a ghost “searching for a graveyard”. Well, this line seems to suggest that John might have been planning to fake his death for a long. So, if it turns true, we have an interesting new chapter in store.
Final Words
These clues point towards a ray of hope. In fact, the fifth instalment of the series is also under discussion. However, it is not clear whether it will be a prequel or not. So, let us keep John in our prayers so that we may enjoy yet another stunning chapter.
