Hamas is not allowing Red Cross officials to visit the hostages in Gaza and will only share information about their condition. This goes against the terms of the ceasefire and prisoner swap agreement between Israel and Hamas. According to a report in the Qatari-owned Al-Araby Al-Jadeed newspaper, based on an Egyptian official, Hamas sees information about the hostages as a bargaining chip that Israel needs to pay for.
While Israel announced that the Red Cross could check on the captives’ conditions, the report states that Israeli security officials will have to wait for the hostages on the Egyptian side of the Rafah border crossing.
The report mentioned that Israeli security officials can wait for the hostages on the Egyptian side of the Rafah border crossing. Once they receive the captives, they can be flown to Israel from Egypt. This is part of a four-day ceasefire negotiated between Qatar, Egypt, and the United States, set to begin Friday morning.
Under the deal, Israel and Hamas agreed to a four-day truce for the release of 50 women and children under the age of 19 taken hostage in exchange for 150 Palestinian women and teenagers in Israeli detention. The agreement also allows for humanitarian aid shipments into Gaza.
