The Houston Rockets and Ime Udoka have reportedly reached an agreement for Udoka. It’s to become the team’s new coach.
Before making the employment offer, the Rockets looked into the case with the league office and the Boston Celtics, among others. Celtic’s banned and fired Udoka for an illegal professional relationship about three months prior.
Udoka guided the Boston Celtics to the NBA Finals. There they faced Golden State in his lone season as head coach.
Rafael Stone, general manager of the Rockets, is credited with helping convince Udoka to join the team by highlighting some of the major aspects. It includes the team’s young potential and salary cap flexibility. Plus, a chance to win the draught lottery and select generational talent Victor Wembanyama.
Claims From Recent Reports
After their recent initial meeting, sources claim that Udoka and Stone took swift action towards forming a collaboration. According to reports, Udoka decided not to apply for the Toronto Raptors position or any other open positions during this recruiting cycle.
Following the early-season departure of Steve Nash, the Brooklyn Nets debated hiring Udoka as head coach. But, ultimately, they chose to elevate interim coach Jacque Vaughn.
The Rockets and the general public were drawn to Udoka largely because of his ability to inspire a locker room and command respect. According to some credible Stats & Information, Udoka guided the Celtics to a 51-31 record. It makes him one of only five rookie head coaches to make it to the NBA Finals in the previous 25 years.

Udoka contributed to the Celtics’ top-10 offensive performance and league-leading defensive efficiency last season. The Rockets finished the season with a record of 22–60. And were in the bottom five in both categories.
According to insiders, former Charlotte and Lakers coaches James Borrego and Frank Vogel were also strong contenders for the Rockets’ open coaching position.
According to reports, the severity of Udoka’s original suspension was greatly influenced by the fact. This includes that according to an independent law firm investigation into him, Udoka used coarse language in his conversation with a female subordinate before they began an unlawful professional connection.
Those probe findings made it impossible for Udoka to reinstate as the Celtics coach. The legal firm’s report, ordered by the Celtics and finished in September, listed the main finding.
