Memorial Bench in a Park

Remembrance benches are an excellent way to remember your loved one. One of the best places to place the bench is in the deceased person’s favorite spot, such as their local park. As much as many families and friends would love to have a memorial bench in the park, most don’t know how to go about it.

How to get a memorial bench in a park

Whether you want to place a teak memorial bench or any other bench in the park, it’s possible to do it. All you need to do is get in touch with the local council, ask for permission, and inquire about your options.

The council will advise you on the type of bench to go for, where to place it, and any other relevant information.

Does the council supply the memorial bench?

This depends on the individual town council or local authority. Some councils will supply you with the bench, while others will ask you to bring it. This is nothing to worry you, as you simply need to get in touch with the council and get a clarification.

How much does a memorial bench cost?

If the council supplies the bench, the cost will vary depending on the location of the bench, its size, size of inscription, installation, and maintenance costs.

Sometimes the price includes the inscribed plaque, and in other cases, the council might ask you to purchase the plaque separate from the cost of the bench.

The price will also be heavily influenced by the park’s nature you want to install the bench. Of course, it will cost you more to place the bench in the more popular tourist spots, such as the Botanic Gardens in Birmingham.

What do you write on the memorial bench?

The most common inscriptions you can make are the person’s name, date of birth, and the date they died. Some councils will allow you to personalize the inscription by adding a favorite quote.

Due to the limited space on the memorial bench plaque, keep the inscriptions short, sweet, and straightforward. When writing the inscriptions, the most important thing to do is to ensure that the words are genuine, heartfelt, and reflect the loved one’s life.

Which is the best type of memorial bench to get?

There is no definitive answer to this as it depends on your preferences and the park rules and policies. Memorial benches are made from three main materials: stone, wood, and metal.

The most popular material is hardwood, and it’s loved by many as it’s durable, so you don’t need to keep replacing it. Popular woods to choose from include: pine, teak, mahogany, oak, and roble.

The memorial bench can be a three, four, even five seater and it comes with a wide range of designs and styles to choose from.

Who is responsible for the bench’s upkeep?

In most areas, the council and local authorities are responsible for the upkeep of the remembrance benches, but this doesn’t prevent you from pulling your weight and ensuring that the bench remains in pristine shape.

When your bench fades, get authorization from the council to varnish or paint it. Remember to follow the local council’s recommendations when doing it.
