How To Reset A Router

Routers are an important part of our lives. The Internet is no longer a luxury but rather a necessity and we need to keep ourselves updated on any new features and software updates made to our internet devices. Very often we need to reset our routers. Here is some help with that.

How to Reboot your router

If you’re using a router with a built-in modem, you only need to disconnect one device. However, if your router is connected to an internet modem provided by your ISP, you must first disconnect the modem and then disconnect the router. Unplug your router first to prevent the loss of internet access from being registered before shutting down your router. This can put the router in an emergency mode that may persist after unplugging.

There are a variety of router manufacturers, and each company has variations in different models of the routers they offer. There are routers available that have a small battery that can store vital data in the occurrence of an unexpected and unforeseen power outage, however you may also find others that will lose the stored information.

Some routers come with a memory chip that takes a few seconds to restore data. In addition, leaving the router off for a while can give your ISP time to notice that your computer and device are offline. This can trigger automated actions on your computer and device.

Again, you should first reconnect your modem and give it enough time to fully boot so that it doesn’t confuse your router when you reconnect it. It is recommended that the modem take at least 1 minute to assign a public IP address. Notice the LED light that indicates the status of the modem.

Wait at least 2-3 minutes before testing that you are back online. Some routers take longer to boot than expected, and it doesn’t make sense to test that when they come back online before the boot process is complete.

It’s a good idea to review the list of Wi-Fi speed test apps you can use to test the bandwidth of your internet connection. If your site doesn’t load at all, it means you’re not connected to the Internet. However, you should also take a test to see if you can get the maximum speed.

How to reset your router

How to reset your router

Let’s talk about how to reset a router. Routers are great and provide access to the Internet for all computers, but they can slow down or stop working. In most cases, the solution is to reset the router. Therefore, there are some ways to reset your router.

1. Unplug it

This means that all routers are connected to a power source, so you can reset them fairly effectively by simply unplugging the router, waiting a second, and then plugging it in. Some routers have such a switch, so you can actually just switch it on and off and the router will reset automatically.

2. Use a paperclip

Another option is to use this common and handy tool called a paperclip. You can open it a little to see sharp points. Sometimes there is a small reset switch there that resets the router with a click. The reason for this reset switch is that even if you can reset the router in other ways, you may need to perform a process called a hard reset.

A hard reset will erase the memory on your router. It has been cleaned up to restore it to the state it was in when it was first purchased at the store. You can do a hard reset by connecting the router, leaving it powered on, pulling out the clip and leaving it there.

Press the button for 10 seconds and that’s it. When complete, the router will automatically reset and forget all the settings you have set. This is very useful if you have lost your password, forgot your settings, do not know how to access your wireless network, or your friend gave you an old router that you do not need to set up. You want to clear the settings and start over.

After resetting the router, it is recommended that you first visit the manufacturer’s website to download the manual. This resets all settings to their default state and reveals the default username and password, as well as the router’s IP address. You can reset it and then you can access it.

Why would your router need a restart?

Most problems are caused by overheating or out-of-date components of a router. A router is essentially a small, highly specialized computer that can overheat, just like a desktop or laptop computer can. It is important to not place the router near a heat source or keep it behind furniture that is out of reach of fresh air.

The range of the router will also significantly reduce if you keep it behind furniture or other objects which will affect internet connectivity. While older models often need to be updated manually via the web interface new routers can be updated automatically.

To access it, you need the IP address of the router and the password and username of the admin user. The stickers on the back of your router often contain these two details, so take a look there first. If you can’t find the information on the router then most often it is online so it’s a good idea to look for help online.

Final thoughts

This article contains some information regarding routers. However, you may find a lot more information on the internet. All you will require is a good internet package and if you need help in comparing packages you have First Energy Price To Compare.
