The Hulu comedy series Reboot’s first season has been cancelled. The pilot episode received widespread praise, but it wasn’t enough to keep the show from being cancelled.
This meta-comedy poked fun at the trend of resurrecting old TV shows. The show followed the fictional cast of the 2000s. Also, the sitcom Step Right Up as they reunited for the second season of the show.
Hulu’s one-year reboot fails. The cancellation of the show was confirmed on social media by actor Johnny Knoxville, who played Clay Barber. It breaks my heart to report that despite critical acclaim. And a nomination for a critics’ choice award, @hulu has not renewed Reboot for a second season. “It’s pretty unbelievable,” he exclaimed.
Working on this show has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my life. And I am grateful to @stevelevitan and the rest of the incredible cast for making it possible. “It’s not over yet; we’re shopping it around, and hopefully it’ll find a home with a studio that believes in. Also, he knows how to properly support a new show as it grows,” he continued.
Steve Levitan is the show’s mastermind behind the scenes
Steve Levitan turned his attention to the science fiction series Reboot after the conclusion of the tenth season. The critically acclaimed comedy series Modern Family in 2020. This was his first time creating a show specifically for online distribution. The pilot, which was shot in late 2021, was picked up for an initial eight-episode run in January 2022.
Reboot served as a form of “therapy” for him, allowing him to “say some of the things [he’d] been thinking in [his] career,” as Levitan put it. “It occurs to you that it would be a much smarter move to simply say. I’m going to ride Modern Family out with the sunset and go off to wine country”. He said after the season finale of Modern Family.
“But I wanted to keep working,” the author continued. I enjoy doing this because I enjoy both writing and making things. I’m carrying a lot of weight right now. I made an effort to channel that energy constructively in order to avoid becoming complacent. Reboot was part of Hulu’s scripted comedy lineup, which also included the premieres of Life & Beth, Only Murders in the Building, and How I Met Your Father.
We’ve always imagined Reboot as a continuing series
Even the season one finale ended on a cliffhanger, leaving many unanswered questions. The first season received an 88% approval rating from critics, but not from viewers.
A family sitcom from the early 2000s is rebooted, and the dysfunctional cast is forced to confront their unresolved issues in today’s fast-paced world. Keegan-Michael Key, Rachel Bloom, Calum Worthy, Krista Marie Yu, Judy Greer, Paul Reiser, Eliza Coupe, Alyah Chanelle Scott, and Ryan Dietz also appeared in Reboot.
