In that game, she’s the main character, and she was hired to test a virtual reality experience at Freddy Fazbear’s. Later, we find out she’s connected to a bad guy called Glitchtrap, who’s like an evil version of William Afton, the original killer of the animatronics. Vanessa also shows up as a bad guy in ‘Security Breach.’ Some clues in the games suggest that Vanessa might be William Afton’s daughter. For one, her last name probably starts with an “A,” which is a hint that her name might be “Afton.”
In ‘Security Breach,’ players can find some old CDs that have recordings of Vanessa’s therapy sessions. These recordings talk about a fight between Vanessa’s parents, and her dad eventually wins custody of her.
Fans on a Reddit page called r/GameTheorists think this means Vanessa is William’s daughter, and she’s been loyal to him in some way. The games never say if this is true or not, but the movie does. In the movie, a police officer named Vanessa Shelley helps Mike and tells him about William Afton’s crimes in the 1980s at Freddy Fazbear’s. While they try to stop the animatronics, Vanessa admits that she’s William Afton’s daughter. And, surprise, William himself is in the movie, pretending to be Mike’s career counsellor Steve Raglan.
Some fans don’t think the movie’s story fits perfectly with the game’s story, but many see it as proof that Vanessa in the game is, indeed, William’s daughter.
