India vs Australia 1st Test : India lock horns against Australia in the 1st Test of Border Gavaskar Trophy on 9th Feb at Nagpur. India team announces squad for the first and second test. Indian All rounder Ravindra Jadeja is cleared and available for the first test. A fitness certificate was issued by National Cricket Academy and confirmed Jadeja’s fitness before BCCI announced the squad for the first two tests.
Jadeja last played for India in August 2022 in Asia Cup. Jadeja suffered a knee injury and was ruled out for five months. He underwent a knee surgery and regained fitness at the right time before the historic series. The 34-year old returned to competitive cricket in a Ranji Trophy match against Tamil Nadu representing Saurashtra. The left arm spinner picked up seven wickets in the match. His seven wicket haul showed clear signs of his fitness and readiness for the historic India vs Australia test series.
Shreyas Iyer ruled out of First Test
Shreyas Iyer has been the standout performer for India in the middle order in 2022. Iyer was ruled out of the ODI and T20I series against New Zealand due to a back injury. Iyer after is rehabbing from the injury in National Cricket Academy. He is yet to clear the fitness test. Iyer is ruled out of the first test due to fitness. He is set to be in NCA, Bengaluru and regain his fitness ahead of the second test in Delhi which starts on Feb 17th.
Josh Hazlewood set to miss first test due to injury
Australian fast bowler Josh Hazlewood is ruled out of the 1st test between India vs Australia due to an Achilles injury on his left leg. Hazlewood picked up the injury in the series against South Africa. He is yet to recover from the injury. Hazlewood’s injury paves way for Scott Boland in the India vs Australia series opener in Nagpur.
“Not sure about the first test. Its’s still a few days away but it’s sneaking up pretty quickly. Second one is obviously straight after as well. So, we’ll play it by ear over the next week and next few days and hopefully Tuesday goes well,” Hazlewood said before Australia’s final session at KSCA ground in Bengaluru.
