HBO Max is set to explore the chilling murder of Carol Stuart in its upcoming documentary series, “Murder In Boston: Roots, Rampage & Reckoning.” Airing on Monday, December 4, at 9 p.m. EST, the three-part docuseries promises to uncover new details surrounding the case.
The series will delve into the shocking 1989 murder of pregnant lawyer Carol Stuart, unravelling the events that transpired on October 23 as she and her husband, Charles Stuart, travelled through the Roxbury neighbourhood. Charles initially claimed a young African-American gunman committed the murder, but investigations revealed his statement to be false. The narrative took a dramatic turn when Charles’s brother testified against him, confessing to Carol Stuart’s murder. Before authorities could apprehend him, Charles Stuart took his own life in January 1990.
In 1989, Charles Stuart’s false report of an attack on him and his pregnant wife, Carol, unravelled during an investigation. On January 3, 1990, Charles’s brother, Matthew, confessed that Charles had killed Carol for an insurance fraud scheme. Troubled by financial concerns and impending fatherhood, Charles sought over $182,000 from Carol’s life insurance policies.
After his brother’s confession, Charles met with his lawyer on January 4, 1990, but later that day, authorities found his abandoned car on the Tobin Bridge. Charles had jumped off the bridge, leading to his death. Posthumous revelations suggested Charles had expressed a desire to kill his wife before the incident, possibly engaged in an affair, and involved a friend in Carol’s murder.
