In a refreshing departure from the brooding Superman of recent cinematic ventures, James Gunn is set to infuse humor into the iconic character with his upcoming film, “Superman: Legacy.” Lois Lane actor Rachel Brosnahan shared insights into the film, expressing that the new Superman, portrayed by David Corenswet, will “have a sense of humor.”
Speaking to Entertainment Tonight, Brosnahan highlighted the collaborative spirit on set and the passion each team member brings to the production. She emphasized, “Every single person involved in this production is such a perfect nerd for Superman. We all grew up watching the movies. Some of us were reading the comics. So I feel like it’s being made with so much love. And I think this Superman will have a sense of humor.”
Brosnahan also offered a glimpse into her version of Lois Lane, describing her as “feisty, marvelous, and fiercely intelligent.” The actor expressed excitement about putting a unique spin on the character while paying homage to the beloved source material.
James Gunn, known for injecting humor into his work, particularly evident in the “Guardians of the Galaxy” trilogy for Marvel, is expected to bring a lighter tone to the Man of Steel. This marks a notable shift from the ultra-serious and gritty portrayal of Superman in Zack Snyder’s previous films, where Henry Cavill embodied the more somber version of the superhero.
“Superman: Legacy” boasts an ensemble cast, introducing various comic book characters to launch Gunn and Peter Safran’s new DC Universe. Alongside Corenswet and Brosnahan, the film features Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor, Skyler Gisondo as Jimmy Olsen, Anthony Carrigan as Metamorpho, Edi Gathegi as Mister Terrific, Nathan Fillion as Guy Gardner, Isabela Merced as Hawkgirl, and more.
Gunn, aware of hero weariness, underscored the significance of character-driven storytelling. He recognized that while crowds love famous characters like Superman, Batman, and Iron Man, the narrating should keep an emphasis on convincing characters to avoid becoming mundane.
“Superman: Legacy” is planned to hit theaters on July 11, 2025, promising a new Superman with a humorous edge, mixing Gunn’s particular style with the dearest legend of the Man of Steel. As the DC Universe develops, this new interpretation of Superman plans to enamor crowds with an ideal equilibrium of affection for the source material and creative narrating.
