Kelly Clarkson’s weight loss journey began with a wake-up call in the form of a pre-diabetic diagnosis a few years ago. This health scare motivated her to take action and make significant lifestyle changes. In January 2023, Clarkson revealed on her talk show, “The Kelly Clarkson Show,” that she had received a pre-diabetic diagnosis, prompting her to take control of her health.

A Fresh Start and Lifestyle Overhaul

Clarkson’s decision to move from Los Angeles to New York City played a crucial role in her weight loss journey. She admitted that she was unhappy in L.A. and needed a fresh start. The move to the bustling city of New York encouraged her to walk more, which became a natural form of exercise. As she explained, “We go walk the dogs a few times at the park. We’ll go for ice cream because my daughter will wear me down. We’ll go make slime and we go to the museum. Walking in the city is quite the workout.”

In addition to increasing her physical activity, Clarkson also made significant changes to her diet. She embraced a protein-rich diet, focusing on lean meats and healthy options. “I eat a healthy mix,” she shared with People magazine. “I dropped weight because I’ve been listening to my doctor—a couple of years I didn’t. And 90 percent of the time I’m really good at it because a protein diet is good for me anyway. I’m a Texas girl, so I like meat—sorry, vegetarians in the world!”

Embracing Moderation and Healthy Indulgences

While Kelly Clarkson weight loss has been a priority, she hasn’t denied herself the occasional treat. Clarkson understands the importance of balance and moderation, allowing herself to indulge in her favorite foods from time to time. “But I still splurge. The other night I had a frozen yogurt with my daughter, and it was magical,” she shared.

In 2018, Clarkson revealed that she had lost 37 pounds by following the Plant Paradox diet, which eliminates lectins found in certain foods. However, her current approach seems to be more focused on making sustainable, long-term lifestyle changes rather than adhering to strict diets.

Throughout her weight loss journey, Clarkson has been candid about the importance of prioritizing mental health and self-acceptance. In her own words, Clarkson offered this advice to her 15-year-old self: “I’ve always been that kind of person that’s a little hard on oneself. I’d be like, ‘It’s not going to happen anytime soon, but eventually, it’ll get easier. Around 41, you’re going to get your s— together.'”
