Liz Cheney, a former Republican U.S. Representative known for criticizing ex-President Donald Trump and co-chairing the probe on the Capitol attack, is thinking about running for president in 2024. In interviews, she mentioned considering a third-party bid as a conservative candidate or joining a bipartisan ticket with Republican and Democrat members.
Cheney expressed concerns about Trump’s impact on democracy and the U.S., emphasizing the need for a candidate capable of addressing significant challenges. She stated,
“We face threats that could be existential to the United States, and we need a candidate who is going to be able to deal with and address and confront all of those challenges.”
In her new book, Cheney claims that ex-Speaker of the House Kevin McCarthy visited Donald Trump three weeks after Jan. 6 because Trump was feeling “depressed” and “not eating.” McCarthy’s visit to Mar-a-Lago was initially seen as a political move to mend ties with Trump after denouncing him for the Capitol attack.
Cheney suggests McCarthy’s visit was more about personal empathy, but the real significance lies in how it marked a crucial step in Trump’s reacceptance by Republican leaders, regardless of McCarthy’s motives. This sheds light on political dynamics without making McCarthy’s motivations a major historical concern.
Trump seems to view sadness or depression as signs of weakness. To counter this, he claims that instead of not eating, he was devouring all kinds of things, maybe steaks, big burgers, bacon, and even parts of a used muffler. Trump denies any wrongdoing and promises retaliation against those he believes have wronged him if he gets re-elected. His campaign representatives have not responded to requests for comments. Now, that is some strange so-called alpha male reaction on his part.
