The Los Angeles Lakers selected Johnson as the first overall pick in 1979. He ultimately agreed to a 25-year, $25 million deal with the Lakers. Johnson had a stellar 1981–82 year, averaging 18.6 points, 9.6 rebounds, 9.5 assists, and a league-best 2.7 steals per game.
