Kelly Ripa and Mark Consuelos, together at last. On Monday, the first episode of the newly christened “Live with Kelly and Mark” aired, with Consuelos officially replacing Ryan Seacrest as the morning show’s new co-host.
Ripa and Consuelos spoke with Variety about going from husband and wife to co-hosts.
For his part, Consuelos believes he and his wife will bring a sense of relatability to the morning show. He explains that they’re parents and business owners. They have siblings and are a married couple, all of which can give people a sense of comfort.
Why is Mark Consuelos replacing Ryan Seacrest on Live?
The decision to replace Seacrest with Consuelos came in easily for the ABC executives time and again. The fans have expressed how much they love the couple’s onscreen camaraderie. Consuelos has already appeared on the show so many times, that he is no stranger who’ll need time to settle in.
As for Kelly Ripa, she hosted Live in 2001, first alongside the late Regis Philbin. Then Michael Strahan, and finally Seacrest, interspersed with several co-hosts who often filled in. She has collected a multi-million fortune and has also become one of the most popular daytime talk show hosts ever.
It is no secret anymore that Ryan Seacrest won’t be a part of Live very soon. The 48-year-old announced his impending departure this spring on Thursday’s episode. He got a replacement with none other than Kelly Ripa’s husband, Mark Consuelos. And this will not be the first time that the spouses are going to be co-workers either. The two originally met on the set of All My Children and eventually decided to elope after dating. They were a part of the show’s cast together for years. Also, they have now been married for over 25 years and share three children.

Mark Consuelos, the future co-host of Live, was invited to the Friday episode where the two co-hosts. Also, the guest talked about the upcoming switch. The Riverdale actor shared his excitement about working with his wife and that too on his “favourite show.”
Ryan Seacrest then went on to ask the 51-year-old about a game they usually play on the daytime talk show called ‘Great Days Trivia’. So, if Consuelos knew the rules to it since neither of them did. Seacrest said, “One of y’all needs to know the rules.” Consuelos was ready with his response, as he answered,
“I know the rules. I know the rules. The rule is to not let the person that is trying to get this mug, get it. That’s the rule. New rules!”

The All My Children alum went on to say that he and Ripa will take to the show as a united front. Also, they will be willing to delve into several topics.
