It is undeniable that MS Dhoni is a revered figure among fans. Even at the age of 41, the Chennai Super Kings captain remains one of the most popular attractions of the IPL. Whenever he dons the yellow jersey and walks out to bat, even if it is just for a brief moment, the viewership numbers skyrocket. Former India cricketer Harbhajan Singh, who has previously played for CSK, praised the strong bond between the team’s supporters and Dhoni.
He asserted that the wicketkeeper-batter always receives the fans’ adoration with the utmost respect. Harbhajan Singh even went so far as to declare that MS Dhoni commands the largest fan following in India.
Fans have not been let down by MS Dhoni’s performances thus far. After a near four-year absence from his home ground in Chennai, Dhoni has exhibited some awe-inspiring strokeplay in this year’s IPL. Although he has only faced 28 deliveries in IPL 2023, Dhoni has made a significant impact with a remarkable strike rate of 210.
During the post match show on Star Sports Harbhajan Singh said: “MS Dhoni is only one. There cannot be a bigger cricketer than him in India. Someone could have scored more runs than him and someone could have taken more wickets than him, but no one has a bigger fanbase than him.
MS Dhoni has accepted this fandom to heart and he respects his teammates as well. He walks with so much love and emotion that anyone else would go mad, but Dhoni has carried this love and emotion in his heart for 15 years and he still hasn’t changed at all.”
Harbhajan Singh also praised left-handed batter Shivam Dube for his diverse range of shots and advised CSK team to give more opportunities to bat higher up in the order. Singh suggested that the Mumbaikar’s talent should be utilized to its fullest potential.
Harbhajan further said: “Shivam Dube’s hitting range is tremendous. Whenever the ball comes into his hitting arc, he dispatches it for a biggie. CSK banks a lot on players with such qualities. Shivam should continue to get opportunities to bat at the top.”
