In a recent episode of The Osbournes Podcast, legendary rock icon Ozzy Osbourne, at 74, candidly discussed his experiences with antidepressants. The open conversation about mental health within the Osbourne family brought to light some side effects that Ozzy has encountered while using these medications.
During the podcast, Ozzy expressed his reservations about antidepressants, revealing a significant side effect that he personally experienced—a sudden decrease in his sex drive. This revelation prompted a moment of shared embarrassment, particularly from his daughter, Kelly.
As Ozzy shared his experience, Kelly, aged 38, couldn’t help but sigh with embarrassment. She inquired if this side effect was common for both men and women, to which Ozzy’s son Jack, 37, clarified that while it’s not guaranteed, sexual dysfunction is a possible side effect.
Adding a touch of humor to the conversation, Ozzy humorously insisted that, in his case, it was a guaranteed outcome. Kelly playfully summarized, “Dad’s basically saying, ‘I took antidepressants and it took my sex drive away.'”
Ozzy Osbourne has been using antidepressants as part of his coping mechanism for dealing with Parkinson’s disease. The rock icon was diagnosed with Parkinson’s in February 2019 after a fall at home. This health challenge, along with subsequent surgeries, has presented significant hurdles for Ozzy and his family.
Over the past few years, Ozzy has undergone multiple surgeries, including an operation on his neck, which was injured during the 2019 fall. Despite facing considerable challenges, Ozzy made a triumphant return to the stage in August 2022 at the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games in England.
However, the journey hasn’t been without struggles. Ozzy’s Parkinson’s is slowly progressing, and he continues to grapple with the aftermath of his fall and surgeries. Recently, in September 2023, he revealed on his family podcast that he was preparing for a fourth surgery related to the 2019 fall, expressing his current discomfort and pain.
Despite the ongoing challenges, Ozzy maintains a philosophical outlook, stating, “You learn to live in the moment because you don’t know what’s going to happen.” This profound perspective reflects his resilience and determination in the face of health uncertainties.
In this candid and open conversation, Ozzy Osbourne not only sheds light on the personal impact of antidepressants but also shares glimpses of his journey in navigating health challenges, offering a relatable perspective on life’s unpredictability
