The fans did not wholeheartedly accept the Purdue-Arizona men’s college basketball game on Dec. 16. The reason was that this would feature a matchup of No. 1 vs. No. 2. But one person was thrilled by the development. It was Jon Miller, the President of Acquisitions & Partnerships for NBC Sports.
The streaming service has 28 million subscribers. It is known for coverage of Big Ten Football, Sunday Night Football, Notre Dame Football, the Olympics and the Premier League, among other events. Now it will broadcast 34 Big Ten men’s basketball games this season and another 20-plus women’s games. For now, they have struck gold with a matchup of No. 1 vs. No. 2.
The Indiana Sports Corporation has announced that Purdue basketball will play Arizona in the second annual Indy Classic. It will be held at Gainbridge Fieldhouse in Indianapolis. The event is scheduled on Saturday, December 16, in Indianapolis as part of a college basketball doubleheader. The other game will pit Indiana State against Ball State. Game times and television designations will be announced at a later date.
Arizona expects to be ranked in the top 20 of the early-season AP Top 25 polls after posting a 28-7 record a year ago. It has earned a two-seed in the NCAA Tournament. The Wildcats finished second in the Pac-12 regular-season standings with a 14-6 record but won the Pac-12 Tournament title with a victory over league champion UCLA in the title game. Over the last two years, Arizona is third nationally with 61 wins while Purdue is sixth with 58 wins.
Purdue owns a 7-5 record with Arizona. They have won two straight games, and five of the last seven contests, with the Wildcats. It was Purdue victory over the No. 2-ranked Wildcats.
