Cleaning your home is the last thing you want to think about in the summertime. Summer means sunny days and beautiful nights spent with your family or friends on a beach or outdoors. Between all those fun outdoor activities, the children being home more, and the extremely hot weather, cleaning in the summer can get really overwhelming. However, if you want to prevent heat, humidity, pests, dirt, and dust affecting your house, you should definitely find time to keep your home clean and tidy through the summer months.
Check out these quick summer cleaning hacks, so that you can relax, enjoy the warm weather, and have more time to spend with your loved ones!
1. Involve the whole family
Your children are home during the summer months, which means that you can involve them in the cleaning process. Let them help you by putting their toys away every night before bedtime, putting their dirty clothes in the hamper, or placing the dirty dishes in the sink when they finish eating. Make cleaning a family activity every morning before the fun begins – give everyone a simple task such as sweeping the floors or wiping down the counters, and you’ll be done and ready for the day before you know it.
2. Use two doormats to prevent outdoor mess from coming inside
During the summer, we’re all going in and out of the house all the time, which means that we’re bringing home dirt and germs through our shoes. Therefore, you should use two doormats – one outside the door and another one inside your house. This ensures that there will be less dust getting inside your home. Also, make sure that everyone who enters your home wipes their feet before coming inside and wash your doormats at least once a week.
3. Clean out the fridge
Warmer weather leads to faster bacterial growth, so it’s really important to take the time to clean out your refrigerator. Rinse down the surfaces inside your fridge with mild antibacterial soap or dish soap and throw out anything that has expired. Take out the shelves, clean out the drawers, and make sure to leave space in your fridge for fresh produce.
4. Keep your bathroom dry to prevent mold
Keeping the bathroom dry is one of the best ways to prevent mold, especially this time of the year. As we all know, mold grows quickly in hot and humid conditions, so make sure to keep your bathroom dry at all times. Always keep wet laundry in hampers or put them into the washing machine. Clean your shower while you’re showering with a sponge and a squeegee.
Clean your toilet every day and use a pumice stone to remove any stains and rings. Wipe your mirrors with a microfiber cloth, keep the fan running while you’re in the shower, and let the door or a window open to help keep the walls dry after you’re done showering.
5. Clean the air conditioner filter
Summer is the perfect time to change or clean the air conditioner filter. An air conditioner that’s clogged up with dust and dirt won’t function well or it could stop working completely. So, make sure to clean the filter with a vacuum cleaner or warm soapy water. Use your vacuum’s brush attachment to get rid of the dust, or wash the filter with hot soapy water and put them to dry before inserting them back into the air conditioner. You can also replace the filter with a new one.
6. Wash the windows
During the summer, your windows are more open and there are a lot more birds around, which means that there will be bird dropping landing on your window sills. So, why not take advantage of the warm weather and clean all of your windows. Use hot soapy water and a sponge and get rid of all the dust and grime. It is recommended that you clean your windows at least every two weeks in the summer.
When you’re washing them, don’t forget to remove the dust from the window frames and blinds as well. If you have curtains, now is the perfect time to remove and wash them. But, if you decide.
7. Get your grill ready for summer
Summer is barbecue time, which means that you need to make sure that your grill is in perfect shape to serve you well this season. Before cooking a nice barbecue for your family and friends, you should deep clean your grill or hire professional cleaning services like We Clean to get your BBQ cleaned professionally and make sure it is safe to use. But, if you do decide to clean the grill on your own, you should heat the grill for a couple of minutes and then turn it off and wait until it cools down completely.
Then, you should take a coarse brush or a metal wire sponge and scrub off all the food residue and grease. Once you’re done scrubbing the grill, wash the grates to remove any dust.
